There is no denying the fact that Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a hotbed of radical Islamism and fanaticism. From students openly offering funeral prayers for Afzal Guru to literally joining outfits like Hizbul Mujahideen, the list is long. However, there is a curious detail that many people miss. Usually, the students of any university are expected to be progressive and liberal, while the old guard, the teachers and proctors are assumed to be conservatives. The case with AMU is complete opposite. The students are more radical and fanatic while the administration tries to keep them in check. Right now, the AMU students are up in arms because they were stopped by the administration from blocking the main entrance to the university and offering namaz outside of it. Why would the students feel the need to offer namaz, blocking the main road, when there are MORE THAN 25 mosques INSIDE the AMU Campus? This might come as a revelation to many but AMU Campus has more than 25 functioning mosques run on the Indian taxpayers money. This is also curious that there is not a single temple on the campus despite around 20% of the students being Hindus. Another reason for the protest is that how did UP Police enter the campus premises. The question arises, if the state funding can enter the campus premises, why the state officials cannot? Is AMU a part of Pakistan or is it outside of Indian Constitution's jurisdiction? Both these acts are an attempt by the radicals to mark their territory and carve out a little ghetto inside of the nation, while the majority are either oblivious or choosing to look away.

Every few years, the world reminds us of our place. A threat here, a tariff there. But the message is the same: stay in your lane, India. Global powers will always bully us, unless we take our destiny in our own hands. And the only way to do that is if we collectively decide to become the world's largest most unapologetic superpower in the world. In economy, in technology, in defense, and most importantly, in ambition. There is absolutely no other way.
