DMK, AIADMK or BJP can’t challenge a new player because most people who populate these parties are: 1) perceived as massively corrupt, dishonest and incompetent. Everyone everywhere in TN can point to at least a dozen politicians who suddenly became rich. 2) Offer no growth for those who want to enter politics (yes, including BJP where there is an RSS route and then, all other routes). 3) Routine rowdy/entitled behaviour in public spaces in full view of common citizens (applies to BJP in a huge dose). 4) The stand out examples of Jay Shah, Udayanidhi, Mithun etc and the deliberate, systematic refusal to promote women leaders in all these parties.

Though the waiting period for domestic #LPG cylinder refills across #TamilNadu has eased up relatively – some areas in #Chennai, especially households with a single cylinder are not out of the woods yet. Some #Chennai areas such as #Thuraipakkam, #Karapakkam, #Sholinganallur, #Korattur, #OldWashermenpet and #Tondiarpet, are facing delays of at least 15 days, unlike most regions in #TamilNadu, where the waiting period is witnessing a reduction from approximately 20 days to nearly 10 days. This has resulted in a gap of nearly 45 days between two orders for single-cylinder households. Single-cylinder domestic users have urged authorities to allow purchase of an additional cylinder if delivery is not made within seven days of booking. I will not be putting out my final number for May 4th. However, I am thoroughly disappointed that all political parties combined have failed to challenge Vijay effectively. Even though they had many opportunities, they kept away from targeting him. He was given a free run.

In all humility and with complete respect for judiciary, I have written the following letter to Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma, informing her that pursuing Gandhian principles of Satyagraha, it won’t be possible for me to pursue this case in her court, either in person or through a counsel. I have taken this difficult decision after coming to the clear conclusion that the proceedings being conducted in her court do not, in any manner, satisfy the fundamental principle that ‘justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done’. My participation in these proceedings, either myself or through a counsel will not achieve anything meaningful.

Among these, the 3rd option is the feasible which will get the including support from opposition. Options 1 and 2, while procedurally easier for the BJP since they do not require constitutional amendments, but will trigger huge political backlash. Ends

Yes, the freeze on the total number of seats is set to end. The Centre now has three options: 1. Proceed with delimitation while retaining the total number of seats (543), based on the latest population data (2026). This could reduce TN's count from 39 to 30 or even lower. 1/n

By defeating the Delimitation and Constitutional Amendment Bill, the opposition parties have done a great disservice to the Nation. With the freeze under Article 81 set to end after the first Census conducted post 2026, the forthcoming census exercise will reset seat distribution purely on population, potentially leading to a steep decline in representation for Southern, North-Eastern, and smaller states. The NDA’s proposal was a sincere effort to preserve federal balance, protect the voice of Southern, North-Eastern, and smaller states, and ensure 33% representation for women. It recognised that states which have performed well on key development indicators should not be penalised in the democratic structure. It is unfortunate that political agendas have prevailed over long term national interest.
