This is, I'm sorry to say, cope. In 2019, 1 in 4 voters in Rochdale used a postal ballot. Postal ballots were finalised before Labour withdrew their support for Ali, and Labour-branded campaigning materials arrived afterwards. 7% for Ali does also reflect on the party.

Would George Galloway have won if Labour had never been forced to withdraw their support for Azhar Ali? It's impossible to say. What I am saying is that it would have still been a very competitive by-election. There's nothing to suggest it would have been nailed on for Labour.

This is going to make the haters really mad: 1) I’m not Jewish. I’m from a Muslim family. My grandfather did namaz 5 times a day. 2) My family came to the UK as refugees and I grew up poor in an urban neighborhood. We were never rich. 3) I’m not right. I’ve been a lifelong leftie whose entire work & career has centered around social justice for 12+ years. This is my world. The desperate attempt to delegitimize my perspective—or any divergent Middle Eastern perspectives—simply because it doesn’t conform to the orthodox left’s narrative that is aggressively pushed by removed westerners who do not understand the Middle East is telling of how little dissent is permitted. These western dictators don’t even allow us to hold our own opinions about our lands, histories, stories, or identities—just like the imperialists they’ve always been. I don’t accept the “popular” narrative peddled by the cult because I’m an independent and studious thinker with lived experience, balance, compassion, understanding of the region, and nuance. While you’re busy destroying the Middle East with your violence and hatred, just like western imperialists have always done, we keep building bridges for our shared future.
