Absolutely agree! COVID-19 is not just the flu. It is important for policymakers to acknowledge the science and communicate accordingly #PublicHealth
Dr. Sean Mullen@drseanmullen

The Reality of COVID-19: It’s Not Just the Flu, and Ignoring It Won’t Protect You When I started my career, I believed exercise would play a key role in slowing cognitive aging and combating neurological diseases. Even with breakthroughs like Ozempic for weight loss, I knew the benefits of staying physically active for brain health were irreplaceable. Then came a global pandemic, disrupting everything—yet what’s more astonishing is the collective denial of a simple truth: COVID-19 is an airborne pathogen that can cause cognitive impairment and neurological damage. Even now, most people—including those in health behavior change and brain health research—aren't taking precautions. The science is undeniable. COVID-19 doesn’t just harm the immunocompromised—it can *create* immunocompromised states through immune exhaustion. It causes cardiovascular damage, neurological impairment, and post-exertional fatigue in both children and adults. And yes, it can lead to long-term cognitive issues, similar to Alzheimer’s disease. For example: - 90% of kids with Long COVID showed abnormal cardiopulmonary exercise testing results. [Source](lnkd.in/g9ZqQntk) - Researchers have found Alzheimer’s-like brain changes in Long COVID patients. [Source](lnkd.in/g9zNe9XF) Yet people are still gathering in unfiltered rooms, unmasked, inhaling viral-laden aerosols. It’s shocking how quickly we’ve normalized this reckless behavior. This isn’t just a matter of personal risk. By not masking, you’re dismissing mountains of evidence and gambling with your brain and lifespan. COVID can trigger neurological disorders, cardiovascular damage, and immune dysfunction. The bottom line: You’re not immune. COVID doesn't care about wishful thinking. Just because billions are pretending it’s over, doesn’t mean you have to risk your future. The science is clear: protect your brain, your body, and your life. Don’t wait until it's too late to get back on the reality train. #COVID19, #BrainHealth, #LongCovid, #NeurologicalDamage, #PublicHealth, #MaskUp

Great paper on wastewater surveillance. "... all countries reported that Wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) of SARS-CoV-2 was perceived as useful to make decisions of public health relevance." Unfortunately, Norway decided to stop with WBS... eurosurveillance.org/content/10.280…

When you hear anyone in the news say "during the pandemic" or "post-pandemic", this is what they are talking about:

While I talked about hospitalization in the previous tweet, I want to make it clear that most people with Long Covid had mild COVID-19. In fact, 90% of people with Long Covid had mild COVID-19. nature.com/articles/s4159…

1/📌SARS-CoV-2 in aerosols: from dispersion in air, to inhalation and disease: (a) while large drops (green) are ballistically and fall, smaller ones (red) can remain buoyant; (b) Droplets evaporate to form aerosols, reducing to just biopolymers and virus particles🧵
