The death of Ayatollah Khamenei opens a window for the Iranian people to determine their own future. For decades, the regime has ruled through fear, brutal repression, international destabilisation, including its nuclear and missile programme, and support for Russia’s war against Ukraine. Iran’s future must belong to its people, not a narrow ideological elite. Pressure must continue until aggression abroad and oppression at home end. Today at the EU’s extraordinary Foreign Affairs Ministers meeting we will discuss the situation in the Middle East, resuming diplomatic efforts and strengthening pressure on Russia and its enablers.

Estonia is closely following the situation in the Middle East. We are in contact with our embassies. We have always said that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and have expressed our concerns about its destabilizing actions and the threat it poses. Estonia calls on all parties to show restraint and avoid further escalation for the sake of regional and global security and stability, as well as the protection of civilians.

The most steadfast supporters of Ukraine, the Nordic-Baltic group, remain committed to a two-point peace plan: unwavering support for Ukraine and increased pressure on Russia. As we met our Ukrainian colleague @andrii_sybiha, we emphasized that Russia, the sole and absolute obstacle to peace, must be pressed to reconsider its course and bring an end to its aggression. Until Russia abandons its maximalist demands and stops speaking the language of drones and missiles, we will continue increasing the price. #MSC2026

#OTD one year ago, the Baltic States 🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹 disconnected from the Russian power grid and synchronised with Continental Europe, a decisive step toward stronger energy security and independence. One year on, the results speak for themselves: the system is stable, resilient, and advancing. This momentum is reinforced by @EU_Commission’s decision to invest €50.9 million to strengthen 🇪🇪 critical energy infrastructure. We must keep pushing ahead. Europe needs bold, strategic action to cut its reliance on Russian energy and limit Kremlin’s ability to weaponise it. There is no place for aggressors in our energy market.

As part of His Majesty the King of Denmark’s State Visit to Estonia, I was glad to welcome my friend and colleague @larsloekke to Tallinn. From security threats in the Arctic region and beyond, Estonia and Denmark are firmly committed to strengthening NATO’s posture across all 360 degrees. We also coordinated further steps to support Ukraine and to increase pressure on Russia, so that it reaches the only reasonable conclusion: aggression bears no fruit, and it is better to stop.
