This is ridiculous. The public has lots of info needs beyond Trump & national politics. They ignore that coverage because they think it’s irrelevant to their lives. You can disagree (I do!) but MANY feel that way about politics. Writing them off as hopeless is the problem.

We need to pay close attention to the normalization of white nationalism and fascism through racist forms of joy and amusement. A white American tradition over the last 2 centuries that was momentarily interrupted by civil rights struggles. This seems like a good place to start

I think everyone should subscribe to nonprofit/co-op newsrooms, especially ones that fund expensive investigative journalism, as ultimately the way to break the cycle of the ruling class owning the media is to move on from legacy media owned by billionaires and family dynasties

Now the Taliban have banned Afghan women from talking to each other even inside their own homes. At what point will the world be outraged by this misogyny? The dangers of this patriarchal and toxic project will have wider consequences in the region and the world.
How will the Taliban enforce this? Will vice and virtue police be able to enter people's private homes at any time? Will husbands and sons be trained to enforce these rules? amu.tv/133207/

While there are numerous ways to critically approach this (check out the smart essays in this forum!) we focused on the need to look more at local (journalism)building blocks of public spheres. While I had some flashbacks to grad school it was a treat to collab w/ Sandra!

I keep thing about how a *major* US newspaper, the New York Post, printed a giant, destructive, easily disprovable lie on its front page
They have a *right* to print lies but there should be consequences. Ban them from the Pulitzers, etc. Kick them out of industry groups
