HD-2D has worked for me exactly once: Those textures, trees, etc. in Octopath? Sprites! Pixels! Actual adherence to a core throwback aesthetic! Bit by bit, this has been lost in every game since. Hi-fi environments kinda just make it a plain, non-standout 2.5D to me by now.
