We are not rational beings using reason to make decisions. We’re emotional beings making decisions and then rationalizing them after the fact. Most people today have negative feelings towards the US, particularly its ruling caste. They rationalize from there. h/t @ScottAdamsSays

@adamtaggart You are an optimist who is patriotic. But the spirit of the age is cynicism and doubt. It's really not about having coherent reasons. Your arguments, and those from either side, flow from these two starting points.

I'm sure I'm going to regret wading back into the fray, but here goes... I'm hearing a lot of people say, "The US attacked Iran unprovoked, so of course Iran has the right to seize the Strait of Hormuz. Iran is just defending itself." First off, "the shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz...are governed by international maritime law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)" britannica.com/question/Who-o… Second and more important, since when has it ever been acceptable to attack or hold hostage neutral parties, in war or otherwise? Spoiler alert: NEVER Your enemies are fair game in war. But NOT neutral parties. Again, NEVER. If I'm wrong here, please some one show me historical precedent. But Iran's attempted taking hostage of the Strait and the ships of neutral nations held captive there, threatening them with deadly violence should they attempt to transit, flies in the face of this. Honest question: why do so many people see this as acceptable?

@John_Fanta Yes, but how did it feel??? Having been on the infield during a Derby, the feel of the ground and the thunder of the hooves can not be captured, only a lived experience. Amazing race.

Which do you believe about a Christian and their salvation? (A) Know you’re saved. Can’t lose it. (B) Know you’re saved. Can lose it. (C) Can’t know you’re saved. Can’t lose it. (D) Can’t know you’re saved. Can lose it.

If it's possible to feel embarrassment while one is alone, that's how I felt staring at this map for several minutes and trying to find all seven missing contiguous American states Crikey that was painful

@LaymansSeminary @JoshuaBarzon No abiding, no basis for assurance. Many modern Evangelicals base their assurance in their theology (head knowledge). This is contrabiblical. It is enticing, "a way that seems right to a man..."

Discipleship results in us becoming more like Jesus as we move through life. The best way to encourage that in the life of another is to share with them using the ways of Jesus with the 12 (his patterns, methods, and forms). Which is the point you're making in your original post 🙂

@danwhitejr I think it's valuable (and more accurate) to make a distinction between discipleship and disciple-making. When discipleship is used to describe the work of disciple-making, things often get murky. Discipleship is the goal. Disciple-making is the means.

Pastor, meeting people one-on-one for coffee is not discipleship, it's mentoring. It's good but it's not discipleship in the way of Jesus.

I've been quietly building a Bible reading tracker — it's called Chapter by Chapter. Free, simple, works in your browser, no account needed. If you're trying to read more of the Bible and want something to mark your progress, this might help. Find it at bible-trackz.pages.dev

@andrewstroud have asked my AI developer agent to check and it thinks it has fixed it - are you able to check for me? Sorry - this is the downside of me not having an android to test.

Replies re: Constitutionalism might consider Lincoln's argument in 1861 after suspending habeas corpus. "To state the question more directly, are all the laws, but one, to go unexecuted, and the government itself go to pieces lest that one be violated? Even in such a case, would not the official oath be broken, if the government should be overthrown, when it was believed that disregarding the single law, would tend to preserve it?"

OK, I'm getting lots of questions about this b/c the President is refusing to sign any new legislation until this Act hits his desk & in response Congressional democrats are threatening permanent gridlock So here goes: Do you support the Save America Act? Why/why not?

After a year of removing running from my fitness routine (previous trainer wanted me to fully focus on strength-building), I've recently started to add it back in w/ my new trainer Just did 6 miles this morning Forgot how great the runner high feels Plus, as much as it challenges the body, running also strengthens the willpower muscle Goal is to get up to half-marathon condition within the next few months, while still making gains on my strength targets What are your fitness goals here in 2026?

I have taken A LOT of heat in the comments for this take. I keep reminding people that I did include the word “usually” intentionally. I do not believe sports are “bad.” I am pointing out how many families let sports control their entire schedule & life. That’s what is dangerous.
Josh Barzon@JoshuaBarzon

Youth sports are usually a waste of time, money, and energy. They replace free play, exhaust families, dominate weekends, and frequently outrank church and family time.
