@JacobsBen Does this stop the Amex Stadium ever being expanded on two sides with the new ground so close?

🚨 Brighton confirm plans for the UK and Europe’s first purpose built women’s football stadium. The stadium will provide bespoke facilities for Brighton’s women’s team and represents a key milestone in the club’s 2030 vision. Work has begun on a planning application for the new women’s stadium located at Bennett’s Field. The location is immediately adjacent to the Amex. The new women’s stadium has been designed with a minimum capacity of 10,000 and will be connected to the Amex via a new bridge link. Significant progress has already been made on design work for the stadium. The club’s ambition is for the stadium to open no later than the 2030/31 season, subject to planning approvals. 🗣️ Women’s managing director Zoe Johnson: "The prospect of a bespoke stadium, built exclusively for women’s players, staff and supporters, is incredibly exciting. It is a project that is the first of its kind in the UK and Europe, and one of only three in the world, and will capture the imagination of stakeholders across the women’s game, not just here but globally." 🗣️ Tony Bloom: "Since we announced our intention to build a stadium for the women’s team in Brighton and Hove, we have seen unprecedented interest locally, nationally and internationally. It is a topic I am regularly asked about by many of our fans, clearly indicating the growing level of interest and potential for women’s football. "It is a significant further investment in our long term vision for women’s football at Brighton & Hove Albion. A women’s stadium in the city is essential to the continued growth of the team." 🗣️ Paul Barber: "With a capacity aligned to Women’s Super League regulations, the stadium reflects our clear belief in ‘right sizing’ the stadium to grow the fan base sustainably. A stadium ‘built for her’ is not only a significant capital investment for the club but one which we know will also benefit the city and other areas around the stadium through the creation of local construction jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities for local people; further boosting the club’s already significant contribution to the local economy, and at a time when there is a great deal of economic uncertainty."

@JacobsBen Will this actually make any money. The tickets will have to be cheap to get an attendance, but then will not make the money to justify opening the stadium. As does it not cost nearly £1 million to put on a game at Chelsea with a full house.

🚨 Chelsea Women confirm the team will move all their WSL fixtures to Stamford Bridge for the 2026/27 season. It follows consultation with the Chelsea Women players, the Chelsea Fan Advisory Board (FAB) and other #CFCW fan groups. The stadium move is announced alongside the launch of the club’s new brand identity: 'Never Done' – a movement that reflects CFCW's ambition on and off the field. Different games could have different capacities but the hope is to sell as many tickets as possible and not cap capacity. Ticket pricing will be released in the coming weeks. Understand double-header game days with the men's team are also entirely not ruled out. Chelsea Women will continue to own Kingsmeadow, and it will be used for Academy games. Expectation is #UWCL games, should Chelsea qualify, will be staged at Stamford Bridge. Plans for domestic cup fixtures are still to be determined. 🗣️ Aki Mandhar, CEO for Chelsea Women: "Our commitment to play all Barclays Women’s Super League matches at Stamford Bridge from next season reaffirms our ambition and intent to make CFCW the leading women’s sports club in the world. Playing the team’s BWSL matches at such an iconic ground ensures our players and supporters have the arena they deserve as we look to propel the game into its next phase of growth."  🗣️ Sonia Bompastor: "The squad, and every player to have pulled on a Chelsea shirt before them, has worked so hard for this as has every member of staff to stand on the sidelines. We can’t wait to welcome you in September, and to provide a stadium that helps us as we write the next chapter for this amazing club."

@WSLAnalytics Although Liverpool Legends had 60K at Anfield to see the return of Jurgen Klopp. Could more have been done to get some of those Liverpool fans to that game first before then moving on to Anfield.

The Merseyside derby was nearly halved. Everton vs Liverpool at Goodison drew just 5,292 — down 46% from 9,823 at Goodison in November 2024. This is the fixture that should have been the emotional centrepiece of derby weekend. Scheduling it alongside the Manchester derby and the NLD — both kicking off within hours — meant the Merseyside clash ranked third in interest on its own Saturday. #MerseysideDerby #WSLAttendance

🚨Derby Weekend Didn’t Deliver — WSL Matchweek 19 Attendance Down 21% Year-on-Year. ▫️The total across all six fixtures: 83,639. That’s not a disaster in isolation. But compared to the equivalent fixtures last season, it represents a 21% decline — and every single big-venue derby dropped. #WSL #WomensFootball #BarclaysWSL #WSLAttendance

@365247Sports @TomJGarry It's not that simple. Great weekend but attendances are down for the 2nd year running. The league's average is heavily carried by Arsenal, with many teams best attendance figure coming when they play Arsenal.

It was a record-breaking WSL & WSL2 weekend for the cumulative attendance, with 111,000 people attending games across the top two divisions' 12 matches. The largest crowds were at: 46,123 (Arsenal) 24,983 (Man Utd) 10,156 (Sunderland) 9,142 (Ipswich) 5,292 (Everton) #BarclaysWSL

📽️ From Donald Trump to Britain's wind power trade body, there's a growing coalition calling for more drilling in the North Sea. Raising the question: if we DID encourage more exploration, how much oil & gas could we actually get? Our MEGA primer on the North Sea👇 Ps it's longer than usual, but it turns out this topic has SO MANY misconceptions. Time to put some of them right. Let me know what you think

@DPJHodges One thing we do have here is a story that is going to run either: 1) An approved organisation has gone rouge which is not a good look for the electoral commission 2) This has been reported and the council statement is wrong and looks like a cover up.

@MattHughesMedia 2)What might be good for TV not so good for fans at the game- with fan base at games being families with children, Fri nights not good with so many children training Sat am or Sun evenings with school on a Mon- also neither great for travelling fans to help build an atmosphere.

@MattHughesMedia 1) Q is what time are they put on? Sky spends so much on EPL they want as many games as possible. Sat 12, 5.30pm and now 8pm. Sun 12, 2pm, 4.30pm and sometimes later then Monday night. Are you going to put the WSL up against EPL or EFL- if not when is the slot?

@WSLAnalytics 2 So if people have been to the ground and ticked it off will they go back ? Hence big attendance at Hill Dickinson as new ground. Took my son to the Liverpool legends game last year as I can not get tickets for league games. Virtual full house and he loved it- going back in 26.

@WSLAnalytics Interesting with the big stadium uplift. Is this a trend that will always happen or is it fans going to a big ground as they can not get tickets for men's games? So Leicester who have spare tickets for men's games do not get the gates for the women's. 1

Inside the Stands 2.0 is out – a full deep dive into attendance trends across the first 52 WSL matches this season. We’ve looked at when and where fans are turning up, and how kick-off times, fixtures and venue choices are shaping WSL crowds. Would love feedback and thoughts. I’ll also be dropping some bite-sized reveals from the analysis, but highly recommend a full read. wslanalytics.com/p/inside-the-s…
