As we move quickly through different scenarios and market dynamics to ensure that USH restores its peg swiftly, here’s a quick update on how everything works and the next steps moving forward. It’s important for everyone in the community to understand how the Redemption Mechanism works in detail. As shared in yesterday’s post, the Redemption Mechanism helps restore USH’s peg when it trades below a set threshold for a sustained period. Instead of triggering instantly, the system ensures that the depeg is persistent before opening a redemption window by tracking two moving averages: — A short-term moving average (last 5 minutes) — A long-term moving average (last 20 minutes) Both moving averages must remain below the threshold before a depeg window can be opened. This prevents unnecessary activations due to short-term price fluctuations and ensures that other peg-stabilizing mechanisms, such as arbitrage between liquidity pools, have a chance to correct the price first. Step-by-Step Explanation of the Redemption Process When the Redemption Window is open, the following steps occur: 1. The redeemer submits $EGLD to the smart contract. 2. The smart contract purchases $USH on @xExchangeApp EGLD-USH liquidity pool. 3. The protocol selects up to 10 borrowers with the highest risk profiles (but still above liquidation thresholds) for redemption. 4. The borrowed $USH is repaid, and the equivalent amount of collateral is seized from the borrowers. 5. $USH is burned, reducing the circulating supply and helping restore the peg. 6. The redeemer receives the seized collateral, usually $sEGLD, which can be redeemed or unstaked. We've prepared a guide explaining how to participate in the Redemption process for anyone interested. Due to the scarcity of liquidity in the sEGLD-EGLD pool, redeemers are selling their $sEGLD for $EGLD to restart the Redemption process. This creates an imbalance in this pool, making the sEGLD-to-EGLD swap unprofitable. As a result, a redeemer can only restore the peg to a certain extent before having to wait for the 10-day cooldown period. With this in mind, we encourage the community to step in and take advantage of the arbitrage opportunities currently available on-chain. One simple strategy is: 1. Go to app.ashswap.io/swap 2. Select $EGLD to spend in order to buy $sEGLD. 3. For example, a 500 $EGLD order will return 457.23 $sEGLD. 4. Go to app.hatom.com/liquid/multive…, click on the Unstake tab, and choose the $sEGLD token. 5. Unstake 457.23 $sEGLD and receive 509.26 $EGLD in 10 days. This results in an easy ~2% profit with zero risk. At the moment, this strategy offers an annualized return of over 60%, which is about 10x higher than simply staking $EGLD. To improve things even more in the process of USH's repeg, we are adjusting the parameters of the $EGLD money market for a better flow of arbitrage and redemption. Moving forward, we will increase the optimal utilization rate to 75% for the $EGLD money market, up from the current 65%. This adjustment will modify the slope of the interest rate curve beyond this point, allowing users to access additional liquidity from the protocol without drastically increasing interest rates. This change is scheduled to go live later today. Once an arbitrage or redemption is performed and the user has $sEGLD exposure, instead of waiting 10 days to unstake, they can deposit it as collateral in the Lending Protocol and take a loan in $EGLD against it. Since both assets are correlated, there is no risk of liquidation. With the newly borrowed $EGLD, they can execute another arbitrage loop or perform additional redemptions. Another key factor delaying USH’s return to its peg is that some users are minting $USH and depositing it as single-sided liquidity in certain pools. This is counterproductive, as it applies sell pressure on $USH (since it must be swapped for the other asset), causing imbalances in liquidity pools. As we prepare to gradually increase the redemption threshold to $0.995, we want to warn users about potential impermanent loss on their positions in the AshSwap StablePool as the repeg progresses. Due to @ash_swap's default settings, most liquidity was provided in “balanced” mode, meaning users supplied liquidity based on the current pool balance, which is currently 1 $USDC for 2 $USH. Since many users have borrowed $USH to pair it with $USDC, supplying between 2 and 2.5 $USH for 1 $USDC, the repeg process will result in an impermanent loss in $USH and an impermanent gain in $USDC. This means users may need to buy back $USH at a higher price than originally supplied to repay their loans. We strongly advise all users to: • Check the status of their $USH loans and the amount they have deposited. • Withdraw surplus in $USH using the one-sided withdrawal option in @ash_swap. • Repay part of their loan to minimize impermanent loss. These actions will rebalance the pool closer to 1 $USDC for 1 $USH and reduce the number of redemptions required to restore the peg. During redemptions, $USH minting is temporarily paused, and those who want to provide liquidity must buy from the open market. Once the peg is restored, minting will resume as normal.
