OECD ranks Australia as one of the wealthiest countries, yet public schools remain underfunded by $6.5bn annually. Fully funding them could grow GDP by up to $74bn over 20 years. Our leaders have the means, time to show courage. #fundpublicschools theeducatoronline.com/k12/news/budge…

Great to have a straight conversation today with Senator @JacquiLambieTAS on getting fair rules and funding for our schools, dealing with teacher shortages and new ways to re-engage our young people. @andy_mison @MatGrino

Visited my Alma Mater Fort St High yesterday with another of its former students, Michael Kirby. The government should be investing more in public education. Whilst the gap in facilities between private and public is vast, what public schools are asking for is not. They deserve the support needed to provide the best education possible.

Chatting to @Dan_Bourchier about my concerns with the major party stitch up on electoral reform that will lock out more community-backed independents. They're clearly terrified of minority govt & being forced to put people before politics.

An eye-opening read from @andy_mison on how Ontario does things differently (and better). This offers a different way of looking at Australia’s challenges. @msciffer @Anncaro11 @pasi_sahlberg

ASPA President @andy_mison says it’s "deeply disappointing that the principle of needs-based equitable funding for every Australian child should be so contested in our national life": theeducatoronline.com/k12/news/quest…

If we are to subsidise private schools, we should require commensurate obligation. The current system is concentrating disadvantage and segregating our kids. @DavidPocock @senatorpennyqld @JacquiLambieTAS @ASPALeaders

Yes to more focus on equity in the debate @isaschools - if you accept public subsidy, you should accept the same regulation of fees, and inclusive enrolment from a prescribed catchment, as public schools. Thus choice AND fairness abc.net.au/listen/program…

I’m really hoping the story on school funding this time next year will restore trust in a federation that works in the public interest. theguardian.com/australia-news…
