Absolutely stunned to find @FrediOtto & myself on the list of 100 most influential people of the year. We never aimed to be influential, just give scientifically defensible answers to questions how climate change influences extreme weather. time.com/time100 @wxrisk @KNMI

Plot of the day: number of days in May with snow reported at at least one of the ~330 volunteer 8-8 precipitation stations, i.e. at 10am local summer time. Rare but happens every now and then, more frequently in the old days. Note that yesterday all snow had melted by 10 o’clock

@micefearboggis Is it ever the case outside of climate modelling? Direct measurement of X yields larger uncertainty than that based on a model plus measurements of alternative variables - in other words an indirect measurement of X. I expect so. In which case the issue is just model complexity.

On this day over 800 years ago the Magna Carta was agreed and signed by King John. He was the King of England and was challenged about how he treated his subjects. It stated that the king and government weren't above the law, allowing people to hold their rulers to account. #OTD

"If there's one thing that really makes my blood boil, it's stupid, nonsensical, scaremongering weather stories," says our weatherman @LiamDutton. Here's his guide on how to spot rubbish weather stories that should be ignored.
