In 1970-'71, the Nixon administration convinced itself that Pakistan was very important because Pakistan was helping facilitate US-China talks. I think this was irrational, but there can be no doubt that Pakistan's middleman role brought it closer to DC. tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108…

In the first four days of the Iran war, the US and allies launched 800+ Patriot missiles—200 more than Ukraine received in three years. "Often they were firing thoughtlessly." They used $6 million SM-6 missiles to shoot down $70,000 Shaheds. 6/

1/ Denmark was reportedly preparing for full-scale war with the US over Greenland in January, with military support from France, Germany, and Nordic nations. Elite troops and F-35 jets with live ammunition were sent, and runways were to be blown up to prevent an invasion. ⬇️

@Mizgol Iran has NOT used a single missile against UAE this entire war so far, just drones for targeting assets. If they used missiles against that tiny glass house it would be over faster than mbz can say shabat shalom.

Start of 2025: ‘Why should I own anything outside of the US?’ 14 months later: South Korea +204%, Peru +143%, South Africa +108% … S&P 500 +18%. The future is unknown. That’s why you diversify.

Woah. Look at this chart. South Africa’s global equity ETF is up 107.8%. That’s the world’s third strongest performance over the last 14 months. I’m no economist, so did some research on what this is and means. In simple terms: an ETF (Exchange-Traded Fund) is a basket of stocks of a specific country that trades like a single share. (South Africa’s are referred to as EZAs) Buying one gives you the ability to invest in the broad range of publicly traded companies in that country. So the EZA being up 107.8% means the value of that basket of South African companies more than DOUBLED in USD terms over the last 14 months. When a country’s ETF starts outperforming like this, it often signals: • Foreign investment flowing in • Improving economic conditions • Rising commodity prices tied to that country • A market that was undervalued, just got repriced It also reflects a major rotation of capital OUT of US equities and INTO international markets. “The end of US exceptionalism,” some investors are calling this. The US market only returned 18.4% over the same period.
