SAFL grad student @MohammadaliOly1 uses a hyperspectral spectroradiometer to detect the spectral reflectance signatures of plastic. Mohammad & advisor Ardeshir Ebtehaj hope to equip drones with these sensors for quick & inexpensive detection & cleanup of plastic in water bodies.

@JamesMLea Exactly the point. There is some very good science in first-round submissions to any journal. The difference is that @MDPIOpenAccess usually provides a farce of Editorial and reviewer oversight, so it's practically a community-sourced pay-to-play blog.

Also for clarity, there is some *very* good science in some papers, but I inevitably end up reading them with an extra degree of caution and scepticism...

This. I refuse to review for or anything to do with them. The one time I was co-author on a paper submitting to them we had to fight with the editor to give us enough time to address reviewer comments properly.

Very strong temperature gradient at the water free surface (not frozen, so about 2-4C) and air, about -20-25C). Add wind and, yes, you have a relatively-hot tub with plenty of heat and moisture fluxes: a natural fog - cloud generator
