tldr: the two most well known "indie animation studios" arent actually indie anymore and we need to start using the term properly again for actual independent made projects from small creatives/artist/teams cuz tbh agree its been way to broadened see: video game industry

to /retract/ those theatrical releases etc seemingly with no financial issues caused and distributors left in the dust with no responses + ghosting

It’s a, smaller, more concentrated form of feedback that I find to be very valuable and it makes figuring out what you need to do much more manageable.

I’m in multiple accountability groups with friends and artists whose work I admire. We all have varying tastes but they understand me. I’m in some smaller discords where I ask for feedback and sometimes I spring my projects on friends who aren’t in the industry at all

That’s why I think community outside of the internet is so important. Find people who understand YOU and your tastes so they can give you good faith criticism that doesn’t completely override your voice.

The internet will sometimes just feel like a million little execs pulling you in a million different directions. As an artist, it’s important to know your “north star” but also be open to taking criticism and applying it in a way that doesn’t completely compromise your vision.

You can VERY quickly lose your artistic voice and you run the risk of your work becoming very safe in the name of people pleasing. People talk about how exec notes “ruin shows” and why that’s the reason shows feel so homogeneous nowadays. I think the same can be applied here

The issue with internet feedback is, there’s a lot of it and you’ll never be able to make everyone happy. Bc art is subjective, a lot of the time, critique will come from a place of personal taste and, obviously, not everyone’s tastes are the same

Critique is being talked about a lot this week. I’m very pro critique. Most of my job is receiving critique and I’m a better artist bc of it. BUT it worries me that young artists are feeling like they need to listen to EVERYTHING random people online tell them

No seriously, Gooseworx's last few posts on social media were basically her saying she'd been pulling all nighters trying to make the finale look as perfect as possible, and her hoping people would get what she was going for when it released, just for it to get unceromoniously leaked and a bunch of people saying it either sucked or celebrating its "downfall". Like no wonder she sounds done with all of this, I think almost anyone in this situation would be.

It’s because people took it personally. Tbh, I don’t really know what everyone expects Goose to do in this situation. The leaks already happened, and at this point it’s mostly out of her hands. She can’t magically control people spreading things around online.
