@afneil Both are children. It stops when the grid is upgraded by east coast subsea cables. But like everything in the UK it is slow to plan, slow agree and consequently 5-10 years too fricken late. We have a similar problem with grid scale batteries.

Interesting evidence that rising cigarette taxes are beyond the point where theyre impacting on smoking rates. Smoking is THAT addictive. We need to look at new measures. Time to think about a complete ban. Perhaps a total ban jn 2040? Shall we work towards that?

@fumerolles_ch We do have many decades of toxicology research to fall back on, the assertion that inhaling a lukewarm aerosol of PG/VG with 1% nic is more than 5% as harmful as inhaling a toxic cocktail of carcinogenic tars and combustion particulates is ludicrous

The 10-year-old claim "95% less harmful than tobacco" is unfortunately the only quantification available. As a researcher, you know that the scientific way to correct this claim is to produce a new, more robust comparison. From 10 years, we are waiting impatiently 😂

Yet another cold day in which UK depends on gas to generate almost 50% of our electricity, with wind managing only 12%. We’re importing 17% from various European neighbours, almost half of that from France (we’d better hope its aging nuclear stations hold up this winter), contributing to our perennial balance of payments deficit. Plus — so much for Miliband’s mission to banish fossil fuels and lead us to energy independence through renewables.

Well imagine after Scottish independence the English State explaining to its voters why the Billions of pounds they claimed that they had subsided Scotland each year with doesn't exist either.
