The JVP waged two violent insurrections, assassinated politicians, and terrorized civilians. The LTTE carried out suicide bombings, child soldier recruitment etc. Both groups brought devastation to Sri Lanka. Yet, political narratives have sanitized some while demonizing others. That hypocrisy needs to end. Tamils have faced systemic discrimination for decades, often sacrificed at the altar of political agendas. But division will not heal those wounds—unity will. Let’s stop rekindling separatist rhetoric. @DrRamArchchuna , we don’t need another round of “Eelam” talks. What we need is leadership that unites people, not one that deepens old wounds. If you truly want justice.. fight for equal rights, reconciliation, and a future where no Sri Lankan—Tamil, Sinhala, or Muslim—has to live in fear of terror or discrimination.

In the good ole days I went to court handcuffed and surrounded by armed men. I had the ‘privilege’ of at least two T56s & a few pistols around me - just in case. So don’t buy stories of encounter killings. Handcuffed & surrounded by so many guns, no one would think of escape.

@nomadic_sanjee Agreed. However they have to deal with the systemic defences in the way the police department is run with particular emphasis upon the senior cadres who are used to behaving like warlords in the areas under their control.

@aruni_t This is definitely true. Rules should apply equally to all persons entering the courts complex, whether they be staff, judicial officers or lawyers.

@aruni_t Security should definitely be vigilant, but in setting like the Hulftsdorf courts, it is q virtually impossible task to completely search every one of the thousands who walk in and out throughout the day. Maybe a better assessment of threat to individuals would help.

In my opinion, this was inevitable. I witnessed minimum security measures (or a complete lack of it) in both public and private settings to be very common once again in Sri Lanka. The security at the airport, courts, apartment complexes, offices, and hotels do the bare minimum. This is a very serious issue and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

This is why it's important to have diverse lived experiences in the room especially when it involves policy. Only a parent or an educator who works with a neurodivergent child will truly understand how life altering personalized interventions are.

An excellent move by President @anuradisanayake’s government. Preserving the mental health of students should also be directed to school principals and teachers (both local and international schools) as well as parents/guardians. This should be made mandatory by the Sri Lanka government.
