I recently took a look at how our school teaches phonics and it felt like old-school guided reading carousels. Do people do whole-class phonics in YR and Y1? Is there a mastery approach to phonics? @Suchmo83? plz RT 🙂🙏

@MrMcofficial86 We give schools guidance on how to integrate their current books to match the progression of our programme. Although we do sell some rather lovely books of our own too. 😉

What I’ve seen about this whole ‘validated phonics scheme’ guff are photos of schools ‘getting rid of books’ they aren’t using because they need to buy new ones to fit a certain scheme. What in the world? Waste of money!!

My advice is always to extend the code into Y2 and beyond, and to continue build blending / segmenting to automaticity. I’m baffled that phonics programmes are being validated that don’t include a Year 2 curriculum.
