@anton_hilado But it's a lot better now! Due to lots of things, but probably the big two are a) I made a very conscious decision that the way I like math is enough for me and b) there is WAY less of a "this is the right way to be" atmosphere for me to have to mentally push back against here.

It has been posted about today already, so here goes. @kenandoesmath has passed away. They were a brilliant mathematician, an incredible poet, and a person whose beauty I don’t know how to describe because I am not as gifted with words as they are.

I am going to MathFest in Tampa this year as part of Project NExT. I am willing to believe that holding Mathest in Tampa *may* be regrettable but unavoidable. However, the MAA's response to members' concerns is regrettable and very much avoidable. A 🧵

@toomanypigeons @virtualcourtney @dtkung @PlayerToTheLeft Without even getting into why I think that asking your junior program participants to brainstorm about how to make Tampa mathfest less harmful is not really an appropriate response. Anyway, disappointed but not really surprised I guess.

@toomanypigeons @virtualcourtney @dtkung @PlayerToTheLeft I am in the same Project NExT cohort as you, I think, and was similarly disappointed by how they've handled a lot of things, e.g. "Yes, we'll require masks at some Project NExT events... except the receptions we host involving food!" I also was not there at mathfest.
