THIS is years of retraining my brain to love my body and not succumb to fad diets and fasting to look as I did in my early-20s. I’m much healthier in general by having a proper diet too. Clothes are supposed to fit you, you’re not supposed to fit your clothes!

I made the mistake of facing the scale when they were taking my weight at the doctors. I gained a few pounds that’s outside of what I think was my “norm,” felt bad for a day, went through my closet to purge the clothes that no longer fitted me, had a snack, and online shopped

One of the many reasons why I left academia and turned down funded research projects because of predatory behaviors of men in positions of power. I knew as a young woman starting out I had everything to lose and still chose to walk away. Wouldn’t wish that on anyone else

@KKgonza Most women, especially young ones just starting out in their adult life, have no idea no idea that so many men are opportunistic predators. We need a curriculum that teaches them how predators operate so they can protect themselves.

These comments stink, but also every scientist would benefit from maintaining a polite form of "eff off" below the surface. Fight for your ideas if they're worth fighting for. Take criticism but don't wilt under it. Not everyone will like what you do. Prove them wrong.

canceling plans is ok. changing your entire look is ok. chasing an ancient instinct to swim thousands of miles upstream to return to your natal waters just to reproduce once and die so that your carcass can sustain an entire ecosystem is ok. do whatever you need to do to cope.

Let this be a reminder that you are replaceable at your job. I coordinated an entire school program, recruited volunteers, led trainings, revamped structure, created new relationship, all on my own the last few months to uphold an org and they FIRED me last night.
