@rondoburlesca Oh yes. How lovely. My Dad had most of his poetry but not seen that one I don’t think.
English

@annajoubert Also the author of "A Letter from Hampstead", a poem about his friend Bernard van Dieren

Sorry about the wonkiness… I came across this beautiful poem about #ImogenHolst in a collection by Edward Lowbury
inspired by visits to Aldeburgh Festival. He was such a talented poet as well as a very eminent pathologist and bacteriologist. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Lo…

English

@helenthecello Yes, he’s their father. I caught up with Miriam before Christmas when we were both playing with Royal Ballet Sinfonia. Edward was a lovely, gentle man. I can recommend his Wikipedia page.
English

@annajoubert what a beautiful poem. Is Edward Lowbury related to Miriam and Pauline and Ruth, with whom I was at KEHS?

Cellist Florence Hooton gave many important British music premieres in the 1930s, 40s and 50s, including Oration by Frank Bridge on 18 January 1936, after the work had been turned down by Felix Salmond. Her last public performance was in 1978 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_…

@annajoubert @MannGeorgia @BBCRadio3 Such a beautiful carol. We were thrilled to find a connection with Joubert and Elizabeth Poston for whose literary and musical estate MoV is the official representative.

Thanks to listeners, producers and @MannGeorgia for including There is no rose in yesterday’s Playlister on @BBCRadio3
I did a thread about Dad’s setting a while back. Here it is again in case it’s of interest.
Anna Joubert@annajoubert
There is no rose 🧵 1/ Dad wrote his setting in 1954 at the request of Novello’s who asked him for a more contemplative work following the success of the lively Torches. I found this manuscript with publisher’s edits when going through his archive.

@annajoubert @MannGeorgia @BBCRadio3 Thank you for posting this! Your dad's setting of this piece affects me every year.

@EmmaCleobury @ClassicFM @BBCRadio3 They have been on @bbcradio3 quite regularly I think, Emma. Richard and I are very old friends (baptised together!) and I’m always pleased to hear him and them.
English

It’s rare nowadays that I am introduced to a new composer. Thank you, @ClassicFM for playing a movement from one of 6 cello concertos by the 18th century Durham-based composer, John Garth, played by Richard Tunnicliffe. What a revelation! Might I suggest @BBCRadio3 champions him?
English

Very lucky to be in the audience to hear @MahanEsfahani play Handel, Bach, Scarlatti & @MichaelBerkele2’s characterful ‘Insects’ at @unibirmingham ‘s beautiful Elgar Hall last night. The Scarlatti was v special and moving. Helpful programme notes by @RichardBratby. #harpsichord
English

@MahanEsfahani Too much choice but we had a lovely meal at Zindaya last week, in Moseley. Not far from the University. Looking forward to your concert!
