The guillotine is a Cartesian instrument because it completely separates the body and the mind.

We should oppose the Trump administration's abuse of the law to intimidate and cripple private advocacy organizations they don't like. But what they say about the Southern Poverty Law Center (which I used to donate to) is, unfortunately, correct: It “long ago abandoned civil rights work and turned into a partisan smear machine.” Among the targets in its McCarthyite "Hate Watch" list are ordinary academic behavioral geneticists whose research challenges the blank slate. nytimes.com/2026/04/22/us/…

@robkhenderson Can't afford it so I'm going to imagine some theories: taboo = hot, something about young phermones, something about the hyper sexuality of boys causing mirroring, something about the job not exposing them to high status men so potential becomes a proxy for status,

@TheLaurenChen I saw this woman who works in education policy and she wanted to ban homeschooling, when I showed her the research it didn't change her mind. She was extremely ideological and she saw it as a barrier to her ends. Good outcomes for the children wasn't her primary concern.

The "I'm a teacher, you're not smart enough to homeschool your kids!" posts are always hilarious Teachers may look down on homeschool parents, but homeschool parents statisticslly deliver better results than teachers

@TheRoyalSerf Patriots, but there is something deeply appealing about fucking someone who you know would hate your political values if they knew. It's got the excitement that interracial lost after that issue got liberalized.

@robkhenderson I’d bet humor and charisma are far more valued than kindness. Revealed preference probably supports that.

@hutchings_ruth @joint_lord_420 @JJ_McCullough I think you can get above replacement rate even when wealthy and secular, secular Israelis are above replacement rate, it's a cultural and econ issue. Don't think in terms of taxes, think in terms of good and services, taxes merely pay for those. Robotics/AI achieve that cheaply.

@anointedpagan @joint_lord_420 @JJ_McCullough You are still ignoring the declining birthrate. Another factor we haven't even mentioned...if population goes down, how do we maintain this massive country? It's damn expensive to keep up. Huge country with tiny population. Taxes would be even higher. Drones don't pay taxes.

@andrewscheelar @ray_hoang30 @JJ_McCullough If the grant has a provision to return the grant, that's not an exit tax, it's you returning subsidy to the taxpayer. And lying to a state for loans/a grant could be a serious criminal penalty, and if it was, and the US would likely respect it.

Except most countries would look at an exit tax like this as a ridiculous notion so they would likely not respect the extradition request I spent a few months out of the country. My student loans auto withdrew. So would I have committed fraud then? If they pay their loans back abroad then who cares?

@RichardHanania Whenever any group has high rates of in-group favoritism and someone in that group violates the norm, I tend to be intrigued, even if they get some things wrong.
