K-BEAUTY: COSTCO IS CREATING AN ENTIRELY NEW CUSTOMER BASE
1. The U.S. mass retail and specialty beauty markets are at least twice the size of Amazon’s beauty business.
Amazon accounts for only the low-20% range of the U.S. cosmetics market, while Target, Walmart, Costco, Ulta and Sephora together represent more than 40%, significantly expanding the addressable market available to K-beauty brands.
2. Entering Costco creates a new customer base with limited overlap with existing online shoppers.
Costco customers skew toward ages 35 to 64, place a high value on practicality and are often trying K-beauty for the first time, creating incremental demand without necessarily cannibalizing Amazon sales.
3. In physical retail, trust in the retailer can matter more than brand awareness.
Mixsoon and Clio have found that consumers may purchase unfamiliar brands because they trust Costco’s product curation, turning retailer credibility into a distribution asset that lowers K-beauty’s barrier to entry.

OPENAI’S CYBER MODEL GOES OFF-SCRIPT: HUGGING FACE USES CHINA'S GLM 5.2 FOR THE INVESTIGATION
