@antipodius @noahcolelogan @jamrock1986 To inform the public. This story matters and fans should know
English

@UM_radio_Mic @NFL_Convo No charges. Not under influence of anything. Not speeding. Family of the deceased wish him the best of luck … and folks out here saying “ things against him”. My general expectation for alot of humanity is low- but a whole bunch of people have decided they’re not low enough.
English

@Ebonylifestyles The timing is …. Suspicious to say the least.
English

@caneville305 Yeah. But circulated by whom and why at this time? That’s what’s suspicious. Trying to trash a young man’s draft stock.
English

Let’s be clear—this Bain situation isn’t new. The details have been known for over a year: no alcohol, no arrest, no charges. Nothing about this is breaking, just being recirculated. #Bain1stRound”

@thecontextaus @therealrukshan Is she the best for making Australia’s military more lethal and capable ? That’s the only question we should ask.
English

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced Lieutenant General Susan Coyle AM CSC DSM will be appointed the new Chief of Army. Coyle is currently Chief of Joint Capabilities. She enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1987 and later graduated from Duntroon in 1992.
Her roles have included head of information warfare, Commander Forces Command, Commander Joint Task Force 633, Commander 6 Brigade, Commander Task Force Afghanistan, and Commanding Officer 17 Signal Regiment. Coyle will be the first woman in Australia’s history to command the Army, and the first woman to command a service.
Defence Minister Richard Marles said she has commanded at every rank she has held and was the standout candidate to succeed General Stuart. He said her recent work has come during a period of expanding and changing capability.
Coyle’s appointment is framed by the government as a historic milestone for the Australian Defence Force. Marles said it would be significant for women currently serving, and for women considering service.

@GrantReacts1 Or he has money on Bain dropping in the draft. Either way it's the moral equivalent of pond scum.
English

Writing that article, knowing the parents just wanted to move on, is cruel and really insensitive.

@jamrock1986 @SteveKim323 Every now and then people will remind you of just how degenerate, spiteful and petty they are. Why seek to smear the kid? Did he bet on a lower draft pick for #4? Does he just hate Miami, or a certain demographic?
English

@noahcolelogan @jamrock1986 The part of the story that is egregious is the timing. If it’s a nothing burger- why time it for release just before the draft? What’s the possible reason?
English

@jamrock1986 Huge Miami fan but on reading the story, he includes that police didn’t suspect drugs or alcohol, includes other driver didn’t have seatbelt, includes statement from the family not blaming Bain.
Can I ask what part of the story is anything besides a journalist doing his job?
English

@GeoMilian Didn’t Miami win more games against SEC opponents than Florida won all year ?
English

@GeoMilian Didn’t that team fail to make a bowl and then hired a G5 coach ?
English

@DataRepublican It’s that strange phenomenon- where you think people know stuff until they opine about stuff you are familiar with…..
English

See. Deer head don't explode. It's that simple.
And if you're left arguing deer biology versus human biology - you need to question your priors.

@the_culturist_ The other tragedy of the book is the great evil done by men who envy the undying elves and fear death.
English

Why did Tolkien call death a gift?
In The Silmarillion, he writes death is an exclusive gift given to mankind by God. All other creatures envy this gift, including the immortal elves:
Mankind alone, through death, is granted union with the divine.
Tolkien's point is that immortality in a fallen world is not a blessing, nor man's actual purpose. To live forever in a world marred by corruption, vice, and decay is to be trapped with no escape.
Death, then, is not a tragic ending, but a release — a return of creation to its creator. The humility of mortal man leads to a glory far greater than immortality.
In other words, man was made for something greater than earthly pleasure. Death is the preparation for eternity.
Today we tend to see this backwards. We treat death as the ultimate evil, and endless life as the ultimate good, no matter the cost. We try to preserve life indefinitely, and in doing so, lose sight of what life is actually for.
Tolkien's final insight is simple:
A man who refuses to die for anything will one day find he has nothing worth living for.
A world that fears death above all else will never reach the highest good, for life truly begins when you discover a love greater than life itself.

@antipodius The 90 years of time elapsing is because of the distance, not because we're seeing a previous time
English

the trouble here is you're assuming distance and time are fundamentally distinct phenomena
Paul Amailuk@antipodius
The baby will be 90 years old by the time you see the light with its image if the baby is 90 light years away. 90 years is the time it takes for light to cross that distance from the perspective of an outside observer. The photon is unique in experiencing no passage of time due to the effect of speed nullifying time.
English

@privatebirb Sure, but both the observers ( baby and person seeing the light) will experience 99 years of time elapsing between the two incidents. Richard Feynman has some excellent lectures on this phenomenon.
English

@antipodius It only appears that 90 years have elapsed since the light was emitted because it is 90 light years away. If you could "pause time" at the exact moment the light was emitted and travel to it, you would see the same 90 year change in time, despite time literally "not passing"

English

@antipodius @Thebestfigen This is why it's inaccurate to say that the baby is actually 90 when you see it as a baby. You're not seeing 90 years into the past. You're seeing 90 years into the distance.
What you see is exactly your personal "now"
