@lf_nationalist As a Melkite, I agree, all Christians of the region are one big family. But unfortunately, SOME Maronites are arrogant and think they're superior, and want us marginalized. This is something that needs to be called out too.

By the way, I’m Orthodox, not Maronite. But I am Maronite at heart. Without the Maronites, Lebanon would have shared the same fate as Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, and Libya. They are the reason Lebanon is still Lebanon. ❤️🇱🇧✝️

@HellasHardrada Turkish nationalism is inherently anti-Christian. Therefore, a "Turkish Orthodox Church" shouldn't exist. A Turk who converts would instead become member of a Greek, Armenian, Georgian or Syriac/Antiochene denomination.

@HellasHardrada I'd say, if Turkish converts to Christianity still want to call themselves Turks, that's their choice. But being a Christian and a Turkish nationalist at once is a big no-no. Utterly incompatible.

@HellasHardrada It's true that Turkic Christians exist elsewhere (Gagauz from Moldova come to mind). But the modern Turkish sense of nationhood is heavily built around anti-Christianity: genocides, ethnic cleansing, expropriations, denial of rights, and so on.

@HellasHardrada To me, it's more complicated. Today's Turks descend from Turkified indigenous peoples. If one decides to become Christian, he'll readopt the traditions of his ancestors: Greek, Armenian, Georgian or Syriac - it depends on denomination. So, why retaining the Turkish identity?

@fredbeltran604 I'd say 8 nations: Shia Sunni Maronite Rum (Melkite + Orthodox) Druze Armenian Assyrian Alawite Note that Armenians and Assyrians are diaspora communities inside Lebanon. And the Alawites and Assyrians are very small compared to the other 6.

Is Greater Lebanon 🇱🇧 made-up of 4 Nations or 5 Nations? 4 Nations: Maronites/Catholics + Druze + Muslim Sunnis + Muslim Shiites; or 5 Nations: Maronites/Catholics + Druze + Muslim Sunnis + Muslim Shiites + Greek-Orthodox. Vote here 👇

@lf_nationalist They'll likely be relegated to the same level of vulnerability as Christian areas in 🇸🇾, 🇮🇶 and 🇵🇸. I'm not necessarily opposed to partition, I just wonder if that would worsen the situation for Christians elsewhere in the ME.

Many Christian areas are outside of Mount Lebanon. So how can partition work without them? What will happen to these places? I totally understand why some people want partition, but what should we do with these areas? I’m just asking a question, not trying to start a debate.

@antohajj True. The rosy lens can be dangerous because it allowed our political class to use diaspora as ATM & votes without pursuing change. Hopefully everyone can return to a viable homeland soon!

People don't realize how easy it is when you live abroad to turn your back on the never-ending stress of our country & live a normal life without the heavy burdens of this place. Thank you to all the diaspora who are fearlessly involved & engaged in defending our community.

@LadyLevnon Indeed, but I think we shouldn't be arguing so obsessively over such a minor issue. By doing so, we are potentially alienating Christians from 🇸🇾, 🇵🇸 and 🇯🇴, who identify as Arab by and large. More than ever, we need unity, not divisions. MENA Christian communities are in danger.

All Lebanese, one’s religion doesn’t factor in this statement. I was raised Sunni and my genetics show me being from the Levant not Arabia. During the time of the caliphate invasion many Lebanese Christians were forced to convert thats why religion can’t be a factor in distinguishing this. The Maronite community (with some exceptions) will not identify as Arab and are very vocal about distinguishing between the two. I’m not knowledgeable about the Melkites. I do tease a Melkite friend of mine because he has more Arab DNA than me 😬 I recommend getting an ancestry test done, that’s the only way you’ll really know.

@deusimpera Here in Brazil, whenever someone says they're Christian, you can be 99% sure they are Protestant. Obviously, we Catholics are Christian too (and more so than them), but we prefer to emphasize we're Catholic.

@Maronidd @lf_nationalist But the 🇵🇸 and 🇸🇾 refugees living in the country inflate the size of Muslim population. And Lebanese citizens living abroad are mostly Christian, not to mention the members of diaspora who are also eligible. There's still hope, and I dream of living in Lebanon someday too.

@lf_nationalist The situation was still salvageable in 1982 because we still made up half the country and we still had control of the state Today we're 1/3 of the country, in serious danger of extinction and the Lebanese state is nothing but a proxy of corrupt mafiocrats controlled by hezbollah
