But now I place a Nd magnet under the 1.5cm puddle and see the distortions. The complex iron ion is paramagnetic. Simple #microchemistry encouraged by @CLEAPSS provides real chemistry to illustrate #ChemEd concepts. In a little you can see a lot.

Iron(III) nitrate (Left) and potassium thiocyanate (Right) are moved into a puddle @CLEAPSS. The solids dissolve. The two solutions come together (in real time) to form the deep red complex. (Can you model this macro event in #microchemistry for #ChemEd using particles?)
