On what basis did anyone project the supposed traffic in 10-20 years? Did you even read properly? You can add a terminal on the other side and connect via subway. Do reach up on airports around the world. I have given 3 solid examples of airports with much higher capacity operating efficiently within the city. If you have data, debate.

What difference a new efficient and grand airport can bring to a city...🙂

@anugula @UpdatesChennai Almost 18 years since Bangalore Airport was opened, and you still don't have a decent public transport connectivity to the Airport. Chennai Airport presently is well connected with buses, metro and importantly, suburban trains!

@sbalaji1 @UpdatesChennai Saw this just now. Chennai is doing very well. Just a few tweaks and we will have optimal utilization of space and a seamless experience for passengers.

Also the reason why international connections to EU dropped was lack of bays. This can easily be solved with an additional terminal on the opposite side. Who says we cannot find another 1500 acres right here? Parandur will become a white elephant for sure. No one south of Villupuram or West of Vaniyambadi will use it for international flights when Tiruchy/Madurai offer very good connectivity to SE Asia and GCC and Bengaluru offers direct flights to the US. It is ok to say Chennai is the 5th busiest airport. We don't have to "win" every trivial online battle.

This is not just a TVK problem. This is the reality of elections in India especially Tamil Nadu. Until we have reforms in political funding with transparent fundraising and spending, this will not change. p.s.: a few years ago, when many people kept asking me when I will contest elections, I said the same reason. #Land SARFAESI ACT supposedly wanted to protect farmers from losing their lands to banks seizing them! So banks will not lend us any money for these lands except for basic farming. If I want to do processing, I cannot use this land as collateral. This is the biggest problem entrepreneurs face in rural India. Farmers are individualistic and enterprising by nature, but are projected as being herd like and incapable of decision making because they don't get the financial support to show the true power of their ingenuity. Distress migration to cities started with agricultural labor from dryland areas and then from irrigated areas and now land owners themselves are forced to migrate. Govts. have been acquiring farmlands indiscriminately for decades and handing it over to industries, corporates and now real estate companies. Most of the land for Parandur will not be used for only aviation related work. Most of the airports in the US and China are utilitarian meaning they don't see them as anything other than transport hubs. Shopping malls, hotels, entertainment etc in Airports are ideas that cities like Dubai, Singapore needed to attract visitors. Atlanta uses just 4700 acres to handle more than 100 million passengers each year. Yet Parandur needs 6000 acres? With Tiruchy, Coimbatore, Madurai catering to a lot of international traffic and two large airports in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, Chennai will never reach that much of a passenger traffic. This is not some online trolling competition to outdo other states but a question of thousands of livelihoods, water security and incredible loss of biodiversity. The knowledge city in Tiruvallur is another real estate proposal masked in the name of knowledge. Instead of reforming existing universities, govt and deemed and allowing them to tie up with these so called international institutions, what is being done is land being offered for them to come and scam even more lacs of students in the name of international quality education and a non existing job market. If you are a supporter of these projects in the name of "development", you are not a capitalist. You are just a supporter of a neocon/oligarch model where you get some crumbs.
