@deepakshenoy They are serious about overtime there. If employees login early, they have to pay them more. Not sure what's so puzzling!

Extremely sad to know that Prof Jagdeep Chhokar, founder of ADR passed away this morning. A crusader for clean elections and electoral reforms. He has donated his body for medical research. May his soul rest in peace.

@harshmadhusudan That's how most 'high fantasy' is, which has seemingly simpler narratives. The equivalent of LOTR in Indian mythology is Ramayana, not Mahabarata.

LOTR is great, no doubt, but eventually rather amateurish - with a cartoonish enemy or foil for the protagonists. To uplift oneself, I have not come across any epic better than the Mahabharata - which of course contains the Gita. Dharma is 'sookshma' (righteousness is nuanced.)

i don’t want to be dramatic but the lord of the rings movies will genuinely change who you are as a person if you lock in and watch them with the care and attention they deserve

Trump has often claimed he used trade to halt India-Pakistan hostilities. Now, for the first time, his administration has made that claim in an official filing (signed by US Commerce Secy) before a US federal court. thewire.in/diplomacy/trad…

@deepakshenoy That's not how it automatically works. Govts need to verify that all of them are Indians; that can often hold up the process. So cooperation speeds up the process. A few countries don't automatically accept: link - newsweek.com/map-shows-whic…

@pranesh I guess. Either way, the content writer might just be following an old writing rule - never define a word using the same word! Perhaps 'thin roll' is better than 'crepe'

@ShriramKMurthi I'd imagine that those who order from Adyar Ananda Bhavan or Murugan Idli on Zomato / Swiggy are far more likely to be Indians. And with the limited text space, I'd rather know if it is "Mysore" style with chilli paste/powder, and what kinds of chutneys it comes with.

Are English speakers in India more likely to know what a "dosa" is or what a "crepe" (never "crêpe") is? It's obviously the former. So stop describing dosas as "crepes" in your menus (unless they're mainly aimed at non-Indians).
