I think about Zizou Berg’s doing all sorts of tests to figure out why he cramped so often. He discovered that he was a “salt sweater” and expelled more salt than usual when he sweat. Adjusted sodium intake (literally had salt packets on court with him) solved his problem.

Rybakina now into a 10-point final set tiebreak against Starodubtseva. Starts off with a double fault. She has borrowed my forehand *and* serve.

Rybakina seems to have borrowed someone else's forehand for the second and third sets. Possibly mine, which would explain why she's now a break down in the set.

@jessicaschiffer If anyone ever watched one match on TV, they'd know that you can wear whatever you feel like to a tennis match, gym clothes to formal.

In my interview with Ayan Broomfield, she pointed out that the barriers to entry for women of color attending tennis tournaments aren’t always the most obvious. Even something like tennis fashion and how it’s portrayed online—often on white women, with a very preppy or Waspy aesthetic—can make it so that Black women don’t feel like they fit in.

Elina Svitolina is quite a legit top 5 player this year so far. Def raised her ceiling vs the top players by embracing the aggressive flat hitting off the forehand on big points in combination with the elite defending. Kinda a big nightmare to play her at night on slow Rome clay.

@ThreadOrder Another thought about this. What a drag for the usual Challenger suspects to have to play guys in the top 50, who come in as top seeds, at those Challengers during the 2nd week of a M1000.

@ThreadOrder I found a couple of the concurrent Challenger finals to be more interesting than Madrid. Some high-level players find other places to play during the 2nd week. It dilutes their product.

The Rome Masters starts today and will conclude next Sunday -- 11 days from now. No seeds play today or tomorrow. Day's 1 and 2 are essentially a challenger schedule. Go to Day's 3 and 4 and you get to watch the seeds play a non-seed. Reminder that Day 4 of the 2012 Rome Masters was this:

@Tennisnerdnet @tennisabstract @ThreadOrder Can anyone tell me if the WTA players use the regular weight racquets, eg Ezone 98 (305g), or the lighter versions, Ezone 98L (285g)?

@WillBoucek I wonder if it has anything to do with those being team sports, so the pot gets split among more people. I wonder how much it works out to per player.

I've never heard a good explanation for this percentage difference. Anyone have ideas??
