Exciting news: 2025 is an odd number, which means it is a year with HotOS. The 2025 edition will be held at Banff (in Canada) in mid-May. The CFP is now out at sigops.org/s/conferences/…, papers are due on January 15th. Please submit your most fun systems idea.

@moyix It isn't limited to Tailscale. I have to disconnect from a self-managed Wireguard tunnel before being able to login. The NYU SSO site is weird.

It's gonna be something cursed like NYU using a route with a private IP range that overlaps with Tailscale's when you're on the NYU network; high chance that even if I figure out what flavor of cursed it is I won't be in a position to do anything about it :p

I should maybe figure out why I can't connect to NYU's SSO while Tailscale is connected, but that mystery seems like it will turn up more skeletons than I'm prepared to fight right now and the workaround is pretty simple

@georgemporter In what model of computation? Turing machines have no time, so I think this is linear in num1+num2. Similarly for old enough kernels, which used interrupts for time keeping, still linear? Also, the function returns a number larger than num1+num2 :)

I don't know how widely known this is, but: - There are 193 member states in the UN. - Add the US's 50 states, DC, territories, vassal states, and satrapies, and you get to exactly 255. That's how IP addresses were designed.
