Sneak peak of some cool parasites the @NWU_WRG parasitologists are discovering here at Tsitsikamma while trying to see if MPAs do protect our hidden diversity. First up some dancing ergasilid copepods on the gills of the endemic South African mullet!! @Linda_vd_Spuy

On Snake Season tonight, Johan Marais, of the African Snakebite Institute, will be talking to us about snakebite & venom, with an interesting demonstration. We'll also be learning about a rarely seen snake, and, of course there will be mamba rescues! #SnakeSeason #Durban #KZN

Something around here is apparently partial to gecko tails... How many geckoes can you spot in this pic? #wildoz

Did you know that #Pythons and #Boas have vestigial remnants of legs called pelvic spurs and femoral bones?! Check out this cool video! CT scanning is a great tool to study #biodiversity and #herpetology. Great visualization by @RamonSN @UMichEEB!
Ramon Nagesan@RamonSN

Pelvic spurs, including reduced femoral bones, can be found in #Boas and #Pythons. These structures are located around the cloaca, & are used during mating. Here the pelvic spurs of the “Rubber Boa” Charina bottae is shown in pink. #herpetology #zoology #oVertTCN @UMichEEB

One of the longest Green Mambas I have rescued, at a construction site on the North Coast last week. A 2m male which construction workers were protective of thankfully! Unfortunately, Mambas here have had to deal with their habitat being destroyed recently. #conservation #snake
