Can’t find pictures or paintings prior to 1900 of Somalis wearing kofiyad or Dirac. We should embrace our culture instead of claiming Arabic attires. We have a beautiful culture, let’s revive it.

Somali’s should take steps to protect and promote our traditional clothing through organizations like UNESCO. Somali dirac is being claimed across East Africa, and the same thing is happening in Oman with Somali hats.

@cleothemermaid0 No, that’s why you won’t find women wearing it in our archives. Dirac was not mentioned until the last century in the Somali community. Same with kofiyad.

@apocalyptic28 Dirac is a Somali word are you okay. dirac comes from the guntiino but the guntiino is older and traditional, while the dirac developed later as a distinct style.
