the next status signal is having lots of kids. people with 4 or more kids are very high status. even 3 kids in SF and NYC is high status. it is very conspicuous consumption: hard to know that you fly private but easy to know that you have 5 kids.

Most people abandon their dreams, (the dreams that feel unreasonable to say out loud) not because they failed, but coz they believe that failure is inevitable and they don't have the conviction to carry their dreams to the end. You need to be delusional about your dreams.
