In India, we still say thousand-crore, lakh-crore, stacking words on top of words until they become mentally incalculable, because our language never had a word for beyond. They say you can't feel what language can't name. I wonder what we'd feel, how much more we'd dare, if we just had a word for it.

@AshishPandey Nothing beyond crorepati actually lives in the language anymore. And crorepati is too low a bar.

@apurvahendi Err, we did have Lakh Crore Arab Kharab etc but then it all got derailed with the mishmash of million billion trillion post the 1991 "liberalisation" and MNC reporting etc. Lakh Crore btw, is the worst, I agree.

“A major failure mode is a high ego-to-ability ratio. If your ego-to-ability ratio gets too high, then you’ve broken the feedback loop to reality. In AI terms, you’ll break your reinforcement learning (RL) loop. You want to have a strong RL loop, which means internalizing responsibility and minimizing ego.”

“One reason SpaceX could move so quickly is I made both the engineering decisions and the spending decisions together in one brain. In most companies, those decisions require at least two different people.”

Some gems from the Book of Elon “How do you know if you’re helping (the world)? I think about it mathematically. How many people you helped, multiplied by how much help you provided each person, on average. How many people you helped, and how much — that’s the total utility (usefulness). It’s almost like the physics definition of true work. If you aspire to do true work, your probability of success is much higher. Building something that makes a big difference to a small number of people is just as great as something that makes a small difference for a vast number of people. Mathematically, the total positive impact would be roughly similar for those two things. It’s about trying to be useful.”

“If you’re the CEO, you work on all the worst problems in the company. There’s no point in spending time on things that are going right, so you only spend time on things that are going wrong. Specifically, the things other people can’t fix. The most pernicious and painful problems. What you actually get as CEO is a distillation of the worst things going on in the company.”

Tolstoy dusted his room one morning and realised moments later, he couldn’t remember whether he’d done the sofa. The act had left no trace.. He wrote, if a life is lived this way, it is as if it never was. Habit eats everything.. objects, feelings, people, years. Art exists to return sensation, to slow perception, to make us work a little to see. As Shklovsky says: so that a stone may be made stony again.

SpaceXAI and @cursor_ai are now working closely together to create the world’s best coding and knowledge work AI. The combination of Cursor’s leading product and distribution to expert software engineers with SpaceX’s million H100 equivalent Colossus training supercomputer will allow us to build the world’s most useful models. Cursor has also given SpaceX the right to acquire Cursor later this year for $60 billion or pay $10 billion for our work together.

Love Elon’s “idiot index” for hardware, i.e., how much more does a finished product cost than the cost of its materials? If this ratio is high, you’re an idiot. Either fix the design or fix the manufacturing.
