Islamic law is not derived from dropping a single hadith into a vacuum. The debate hinges entirely on whether that command was intended as a permanent religious law for anyone changing their mind, or a specific wartime decree dealing with political treason. ​Scholars who argue against the death penalty for simple apostasy maintain that a hadith (which is a secondary source of law) cannot override a clear, foundational ruling of the Quran. If there is no compulsion to enter the religion, they argue, there cannot be a worldly, violent compulsion to remain in it. I've even given you hadith of someone leaving peacefully without reason and without penalty. Now I'd like you to address my points and my claim on double standards. You're confused between Shariah and Fiqh I explained back then during the rulings, treason came with apostasy. I clearly mentioned the quranic verse with no compulsion in religion Note that treason and death penalties exist today outside Islam. The classical scholars ruled it, back in the day religion and state were identical and apostasy came with treason. Here is proof too Sahih al-Bukhari (7199), a Bedouin came to Prophet Muhammad, renounced his Islam, and asked to cancel his pledge. The Prophet didn't kill him; he let him leave the city. Why? Historically the penalty was given to those who engaged in treason and switched sides to fight and spread corruption. It was more about treason and not apostasy. Today, many countries and states adapt the death penalty for treason, I don't see you questioning that. Let's keep the moral standards consistent. 2.
