For games since 2001 (where I had time info) I adjusted back to Lincoln time for games. I believe the data I had prior to that is based on the local date. The Hawaii games are listed on Saturday and the Tokyo game on Sunday (which aligns to Sports Reference day of week data) Good callout there. The loss columns includes the ties

@arbitanalytics Out of curiosity, are you using the local date, or the date in Lincoln at kickoff? (notable for the 1991 Tokyo game, and 1-2 of the Hawaii games). Also, there have been five ties since 1970, all on a Saturday.

@MrChewy69 Iowa has played Ohio State 4 times since conference realignment started so Nebraska playing them 3 years in a row isn't a given

@Caleb_Wittwer 🤣 I was curious about that part too. The worst ranked scoring defense Nebraska had in any of those seasons was 66th. So it's not like it was terrible in any season

I remember watching this game wishing Nebraska would just take a page from the Red Beaulieu playbook and just kneel 3 times and punt every offensive possession. The only way they were losing that night was giving up a touchdown to the Sooner defense

Geep Wade has an offensive lineman go in the first round. Nebraska's last first-round draft pick on the OL was Dean Steinkuhler in 1984

The #Huskers are now 1-10 against the eventual national champions in basketball. Their three-point loss to Michigan this season ties the 1952 Nebraska basketball team for the second-closest game against the eventual champions (Kansas). That Nebraska team also featured a father-son coach-player combo in Harry and Joe Good

@HawkguyMatt I'm sure a coach or player would never admit it publicly, but I'm sure it's a big challenge to adjust to such a dramatic change between games like that

@arbitanalytics The games were not called the same. Iowa/UNL was consistently called with the “let them play” philosophy. Iowa/ILL was called pretty much the polar opposite way.

I will say, I kept hearing that taking 38 three-pointers is the only reason Iowa had 7 fouls against Nebraska. Nebraska had 20 two-point attempts in the Sweet 16. Iowa only had 17 two-point attempts in the Elite 8, while Illinois was called for 13 fouls

I don't think the whistle favored one team much over the other in either game. Just crazy about the variance in how one game was officiated compared to the next.

Another program first for the #Huskers: Nebraska's win over Illinois in December is the first time the Huskers have won a road game against a Final Four team. It's their 13th win against a Final Four team in total (11 home wins, 1 neutral site previously)
