Romania's outgoing lame-duck president Klaus Iohannis has resigned to preempt an impeachment bid by conservative parties. His term ended in December, and he is deeply unpopular. Romania was plunged into institutional chaos last year when Calin Georgescu won the first round of the presidential election--an outcome not preferred by the European Union or Romania's USAID-backed NGOs, prompting the courts to void the entire election. Thousands of Romanians have now taken to the streets to demand snap elections and for Calin to be president.

Well, the game has now changed and it’s called freedom, sovereignty, sincerity.

🇷🇴🇺🇲 USAID sent millions of dollars to Romania to, among other things, "strengthen democratic institutions, improve the rule of law and enhance media independence", according to a U.S. Department of State report from March 2024 Since then: - Elections have been canceled - Non-state-aligned TV stations shut down or fined - Dissidents have been arrested and fined - Courts have dismissed all attempts to restore democracy - The biggest propaganda campaign in Romanian history has been unleashed by the mainstream media against a single candidate

Romania became the first member state in the history of the European Union to cancel an election. truthdig.com/articles/roman…
