I watched JioHotstar's cut of the press conference last evening featuring Smriti Mandhana and Mumbai Indians, and it is so sad. Some really priceless banter was lost in that edit. The pair spoke about a range of things: 🔸On the Indian team's doors being very much open for anyone who can put in good performances 🔸 Memories of Nov 2 at this venue 🔸 What they can learn from each other as captains 🔸 If Smriti is getting some pace training from Anya Shrubsole and much more. Here is the FULL VIDEO, uncut. Enjoy 👉bit.ly/4qOuZz2

I have a boy who can't speak, and a dog that can't bark. Snoopy came from a shelter, who rescued him when he was abandoned at their gate, and we have no idea of any of his past life. But it must have involved some trauma, because if you even wag a finger at him for the slightest infraction, he cowers and hides in the nearest convenient spot. And Neel can't speak, and is not really the most adept with his fingers, but he screws his face up and somehow manages to attach the leash to take his doggie for a walk. And then they are off downstairs, Neel unsteadily swaying as Snoopy strains at the leash, and Snoopy trying to take in all the alluring scents before Neel drags him away. And you wonder how difficult it is for both, all that fine motor work for a kid with an incomplete cerebellum, and all that tugging and inexpert pulling for a doggy who can't even bark in protest. But every day, Neel rushes to get ready for his walk, grunting away in excitement, and Snoopy goes up to him and stands obediently while Neel fumbles on his harness. And then off they go, imperfect and yet somehow so complete

My heart is with the family of the young basketball player who tragically lost his life in Haryana. A child stepped onto a court with joy and energy, simply wanting to play… and he never returned home. It is a pain no parent, no family, should ever have to endure. Moments like this stay with us. They remind us how precious and fragile a child’s dream is, and how much care and attention must go into the spaces where our young people play and grow. Every child should feel safe when they step onto a playground, a field or a court. As we hold this young boy in our thoughts, may his memory guide us to do better, to look after our sporting spaces with greater responsibility, and to ensure that every child feels protected as they discover the joy of sport.

When I started competing, I had a small dream - to one day compete alongside the able-bodied and win medals ♥️ I didn’t make it at first, but I kept going, learning from every setback. Now, that dream is one step closer. 🌟 In the Asia Cup trials, I secured Rank 3 and will now represent India in the Asia Cup - in the able-bodied category. 🇮🇳 Dreams take time. Work. Believe. Repeat. 💫

An innings fit to be ranked among the very best by an Indian by @JemiRodrigues. And she will be the first to admit the support from Harmanpreet, Deepti and Richa. This is an astonishing run-chase

Piyush Pandey entered a profession that spoke in beautifully nuanced English aur usko apni zubaan ka khubsoorat zaika pesh kiya. He flew high in the advertising world par kadam is sanskriti se alag kabhi nahi hue. He could take on layered communication needs aur usko itni aasaani se suljhaya ke hum sab waah kehte reh gaye. If you want to leave a mark in your profession, to Piyush Pandey bano. Advertising ka gold mohur. Goodbye my friend. Alvida.

So heartwarming to see. India not only hosted the World Para Athletics Championships for the first time but also bagged a record 22 medals (6 Gold, 9 Silver & 7 Bronze). At Kobe 2024, India had finished sixth with 17 medals (6 Gold, 5 Silver & 6 Bronze). Even more than the medals, the resilience, determination, and the joy of seeing these heroes shine on home soil was wonderful. More strength to them. #WPAC2025 #WorldParaAthletics2025

A champion’s story. Congratulations Nishad!
Boria Majumdar@BoriaMajumdar

Nishad Kumar won a Para World Championship gold with a PB of 2.14 meters. His story will make you believe the world isn’t all that bad. In my thirty-plus years of sports reporting, I have not heard a story like this. When Nishad Kumar first came to train in Panchkula, he wasn’t sure if he would be admitted. Nor was he certain about the fees the coaches charge every month. When his brother asked one of the coaches what the fee structure was like, he was told that it was a government facility and talented athletes are trained without charge. Thinking to himself that he had at least saved 1500 rupees for the family, Nishad made up his mind to be a high jumper. The coaches asked him if he was committed to the sport or if he was keen on playing to secure a government job. For Nishad, the goal was clear. He had to represent India and everything else would follow. The coaches took his number and informed him that he would get a call ahead of the next camp. “In two months, I got a call and was told that I needed to join the camp in a few days,” he said. “I packed everything I needed to – utensils, rice, atta, dal, my blanket, bedsheets, soap, oil, and all that you can think of – and even bought vegetables to take with me. Everything that I got filled up an entire auto. That’s how I went to the camp fully ready to stay there for as long as it was needed. My coaches were shocked to see me reach the camp with rice, atta and vegetables and asked what was wrong with me. The truth is I did not know that you get food and all else in a camp. That’s how my journey started.” When Nishad was in Dubai the first time, he wanted to buy something for his dad. “There was no money then,” he told me. “So I was thinking what I could get. Because there are severe power cuts in my village and we always use a torch, I thought I’d get a really nice torch for my dad. That’s what I bought for him from Dubai the first time.” When he earned a bit of money, the first gift was for his mother. “I took my mom to a jewellery shop and asked her to get something made of gold that I could afford,” said Nishad. “I wanted to see her wear it, for it would make me happy. For everything she has done for me, I had never given her much. This little gift made me really happy.” When we last spoke he had said to me, “Sir, please come to LA 28. I will win gold and beat Townsend in his own backyard (he had lost to the American in Paris 2024). I need to change the colour of my medal and I will do everything to do that.” Today in Delhi he did change the colour of the medal on his birthday. And yes his parents were there. Couldn’t be a better gift for them to see their son be world champion in front of their eyes. Well done Nishad.
