I’ve said for a few weeks now that I feel Oliver Glasner’s time as our manger is over.
He decided he was going to leave in October, made that news public in January despite the board telling him that it wouldn’t do any good and is now on a run of 1 win in 15 games in all competitions.
I’ll always be incredibly grateful for what he has achieved as our manager, the FA Cup win legitimately felt like a life changing moment as a fan back in May of 2025 and still does now but I just don’t believe that he is now getting the best out of the group.
Whether it’s just a tiny shift in intensity leading to poor results or something more serious, it now feels obvious that things aren’t going to improve particularly between now and the end of the season.
Ultimately, however simplistic or basic it may sound, I believe that the manager of our football club should want to be there for the long haul, not just until his contract runs its course.
I understood, in broad terms, the thought process behind not sacking him and allowing his deal to come to an end but it feels untenable from my point of view.

@MadsDavies @DrFrancisYoung It looks like a popular appointment of a priest who loves Durham and loves his people. More of that please!
English

@archchelms @DrFrancisYoung It’s quite hard to win on here tbh. The ones who are already bishops have ‘chased preferment their whole ministry’, don’t have parish experience etc

News from Downing Street: the Ven. Rick Simpson, currently Archdeacon of Auckland, has been chosen as the next Bishop of Durham.

@DrFrancisYoung @MadsDavies ‘as lowly as a mere archdeacon’. Wonderful. Whoever thought the lowly might be lifted up in the Christian church …
English

@MadsDavies I’m sure he’s a fine candidate, but isn’t it unusual for someone as lowly as a mere archdeacon to be appointed to a see as senior as Durham? That suggests something hinky about the appointment process to me…

I spoke to the Archdeacon of Chelmsford about events in Epping. The local MP has called for the immediate closure of the Bell hotel, which has become the site of large protests churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2025/…

Learning curves as I transition to two new roles: a Churchwarden and an Associate Medical Director both rather steep- I think Churchwarden actually the steeper of the two (money stuff!!) A summer of change and much learning ahead Imposter syndrome levels? Through the roof 😥
English

@carloprina It’s all change since you became a churchwarden…
English

@carloprina Thought Oli Glasner’s interview with Linneker pitchside dealt with this beautifully. What a perfect day. ❤️💙

The numbers don’t lie, and according to new research by Bible Society and YouGov the numbers are up, from 8% of adults in 2018 to 12% in 2024.
That means for every two people in England and Wales who went to church, back in 2018, there are now three.
That 50% growth figure is the overall average. Young adults in particular are attending church more than they have in a long time. Compared to 2018, four times as many under-25s attend church. And the percentage of young men in church has shot up from 4% to 21% far above the average.
As the old certainties crumble, the search for meaning intensifies. The numbers don’t lie.
