@DomusWeb Nice story, but please note that Donald Trump was not president "only for a few months" as of March 2016; running for president, yes, but definitely not yet president. He was elected in November 2016 and took office in January 2017.

The comic book artist, regarded as one of the greatest living storytellers, is celebrated by an exhibition in Barcelona. Domus visited it with him. Here is what he told us. #Echobox=1743809679" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">domusweb.it/en/news/galler…

Hi all! Quick question... What are the most significant buildings of the 21st century so far?

Just learned that Netsch's library and other historic buildings at Wells College are under threat after the school permanently and abruptly closed in the spring, and water and heat will be shut off this winter. Details: wellslegacysociety.org/news/0ts38g6kf…

Just learning about the Louis Jefferson Long Library at Wells College (Walter Netsch/SOM, 1968), I'm thinking a summer road trip to Aurora, NY is in order. Aerial from Wells College website, rest from March 1968 Progressive Architecture, via usmodernist.org/index-pa.htm

"Chicago, Illinois is America's railroad capital." Yeah, sure, except when, one second later, Chicago turns into New York City. Oops, @SmithsonianChan's "How Did They Build That."

Designer shakeup at the Global War on Terrorism Memorial: Kengo Kuma is now the lead architect for the project in D.C.’s National Mall, taking over from Marlon Blackwell. No word yet on Blackwell’s firm's role moving forward. archinect.com/news/article/1…

Looks like INOA Architecture is copy-pasting what I call the Astoria Eyebeam, which could have turned out a lot better, for the design of a taller apartment building in East Flatbush: newyorkyimby.com/2024/09/render… Maybe the change from rounded to square corners will make it work better

A landform for Helsinki's South Harbour? I waded through the 623 submissions in the first stage of the competition for the New Museum of Architecture & Design in Helsinki—competitiongallery.admuseo.fi—and pulled out 24 entries that propose to some sort of landform.

I wonder how many New Yorkers are aware of this: Robert Hammond’s company is demolishing a historic and beloved Modernist park. @maridapr @nyreviewofarch @archidose @JDavidsonNYC @kimmelman
Gil Meslin@g_meslin

It’s remarkable. Robert Hammond, co-founder of @highlinenyc, now President of Therme US. In Toronto: Bulldoze heritage landscapes and build a massive indoor waterpark on waterfront public parkland, because wellness. In NYC: Protect the park’s views from that hulking structure!

@bagnese During a semester in Italy, I went with some classmates to a memorable REM show at Palazzetto dello Sport. The show being in a Nervi building, which I didn't realize beforehand, was a cherry on top. archive.org/details/REM_19…

Just now seeing this unfortunate news. I can't help agree with Theodore, further down in his thread, that LPC is more aligned with owners' interests than architectural history.
Theodore Grunewald@TedGrunewald

Terrible 💔 news... #HistoricPreservationAlert #DemolitionAlert #NYC The Aalto Rooms—a.k.a. the Edgar J. Kaufman Conference Center—designed by Alvar and Elissa Aalto (1964) have been COMPLETELY DESTROYED for a redecoration—by the building's new owner, the government of Qatar.

RIP, Fumihiko Maki. I was able to visit the Spiral twenty years ago and remember really liking it. I could have spent the day there, it had so many things (shopping, eating, art, culture) stuffed inside it; the facade illustrates all that.
John Hill@archidose

From sketch to reality: Fumihiko Maki's Wacoal Art Center (aka Spiral) in Tokyo. No special reason for posting this. Found the design images in an old Japan Society catalog and photo on the Spiral website.

The architects writing to Progressive Architecture were none to happy with its April 1975 "Historical Allusions" issue, none more—or more poetic—than Lebbeus Woods. (Images from PDF scans at US Modernist Library: usmodernist.org/index-pa.htm)
