@streetfrontier Do you think the proposed inner ring line metro in blr will be better off being a tram line? since the govt seems not interested in spending too much on it

We want trams. But where do we even build them in our cities? The Paris T3b tram line offers a good case study. 🧵...

Ok @IndianExpress. Many people have messaged me willing to take his gym membership. Also a friend who is in touch with him said he is uncomfortable just taking money. So here is the deal. People will take membership. For each paid membership, he can enrol one local person to use his gym for free. He will get more than 150 members in his gym present. We will literally be sponsoring the persons so it won’t hurt his pride. In return, he can train them physically and also teach them to stand up for what is right. Make this happen
Joy@Joydas

Ok @IndianExpress. You did a good story. Now do the next part. Deepak Kumar did a brave thing. He is losing his income because of that. He had 150 Members, now it’s 15. Get details from him and ask him to open online membership. By the end of the week, he will have 150 Members from all over India. Even if they don’t step in to the gym physically. We can’t let a good man lose. You can run this as an Indian Express Impact story and win your awards.

Archives | Students who escaped oppressive environments were often dismayed to reach the university and find that similar kinds of hostility awaited them there. “Back home they are big people, their families are proud of them,” but in the university, they are seen as people “who don’t belong,” Leonard, who is a Dalit Christian, told me. People look at Dalit students and ask, “Why are you even here?” Leonard said. “We are not imagined as people sitting in the library, attending seminars, talking to a professor, engaged in research.” Many students I spoke to described how faculty members discriminated against Dalit students, usually under the guise of maintaining “merit” as a standard in the university. “There is a wide gap between the social background of the teachers and some of the students,” G Haragopal, a retired professor of the university, told me. “Some of the faculty members carry a lot of prejudices with them. They are not just indifferent but their attitude borders on hostility. I don’t think it ever strikes them that transforming the society is also the responsibility of an institute of higher learning.” As evidence of the system’s casteist bias, many students pointed out that even those who had been admitted to the university in the open category, and not on reserved seats, would find that on result notification lists, their names would have one star, two stars or a hash against them, corresponding to whether they were from a scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, or other backward class. For the full story on the defiant politics of Rohith Vemula and the Ambedkar Students Association, read Praveen Donthi's report from May 2016: caravanmagazine.in/reportage/from… #Theperversionsofcaste

@bhaumikgowande if a source of supplemental income is being treated as livelihood, thats a failure of labour market. we can either give more benefits to other types of work, or give these workers more benefits. it’s stupid to blame gig workers for being “bonded” while they don’t have a choice.

Everyone agrees gig workers deserve basic, humane working conditions. But let’s stop pretending gig work was designed as a full time livelihood. No one is bonded to an app. Its basic principle was built for supplemental income, flexible, optional, and enter freely & exit-able.
The real distortion is Indian LIG’s collective decision to treat it as permanent employment and corporate India hailing it as job revolution. If a platform does not pay enough or the conditions are poor, the rational response is not moral outrage alone, it is to walk away. Turning stopgap work into survival work is not empowerment. It is a failure of the labour market and a refusal to admit it.

BJP wins Trivandrum Corporation and first thing they do is disrupt IFFK by not giving censorship for 19 films at the festival. IFFK an iconic event hosted by Trivandrum has not faced such issues in its past 30 year history.

The Phase 1 alignment of the Thiruvananthapuram Metro Rail has been approved, marking a landmark step in reshaping Kerala’s capital for the future. This 31-km corridor with 27 stations is a game-changer, set to connect key IT hubs, major transport nodes, and vital administrative and healthcare centres. Executed by @MetroRailKochi (KMRL), the project will redefine urban mobility and accelerate Thiruvananthapuram' development.

@ameershahul @pinarayivijayan Extreme energy and resource consumption with very low job creation. Having massive data centers in a state already struggling for land area makes zero sense.

A piece of advice from a former IBM executive: these FDI numbers won’t automatically translate into real investment. Secondly, in the coming wave of AI, everything as we know it will be washed out. What Kerala truly needs is three things: 1) Data Centers 2) Data Centers 3) Data Centers. This has been my clear recommendation in 2017, detailed in the proposal I shared with Shivshankar almost eight years ago. You can check his mailbox and retrieve it. Kerala’s strategic advantage, including the SEA-ME-WE cable landing and government initiatives around IT infrastructure, must be leveraged fully by prioritizing data centers. These are the backbone for attracting long-term investment, enable AI and cloud economies, and securing Kerala's place in the future technology landscape.

Kerala’s journey to become a global innovation hub takes a bold leap forward. A Letter of Intent was signed today for Meridian Tech Park, powered by Al Marzooqi Holdings FZC, marking an ₹850 crore FDI investment in Technopark Phase III. Designed for sustainability and collaboration, this landmark project will create over 10,000 jobs and stand as a symbol of Kerala’s vertical growth and expanding global footprint.

The MPLADS Dashboard is now live on Empowered Indian! After some delays (apologies), you can finally see how your MP’s funds are being allocated and spent in your constituency. Every project, every allocation - transparent and easy to explore: empoweredindian.in/mplads This isn’t just numbers - it’s about citizens having the tools to hold elected representatives accountable, understand development priorities, and ask the right questions. Next up, we’re bringing the same transparency to MLA Local Area Development (MLALADS) funds - because knowing where your money goes shouldn’t stop at the national level. We’ll also be adding data for previous Lok Sabha terms shortly, so you can see the full picture of how your constituency’s funds have been used over time. Transparency is power. Now, you can see where your money is actually going, and engage with the democratic process like never before. CC: @malpani #empoweredindian #righttoknow
