Against a backdrop of #economic volatility and increasing competition, participants will consider how stronger regional linkages, improved #connectivity, and trade can 📉contribute to #stability and shared prosperity. In parallel, discussions will address the growing challenge of hybrid threats, noting that despite mounting pressures, democratic systems are forging partnerships for stronger resilience. Armenia welcomes the decision of @EUCouncil to deploy a new EU civilian mission to the Republic of #Armenia, aimed at supporting the strengthening of Armenia’s democratic resilience, addressing hybrid threats, including efforts to counter disinformation, cyberattacks & illicit financial flows. The mission will be deployed for an initial period of two years & through its activities will contribute to the development of institutional capacities in the aforementioned areas, as well as to enhancing the resilience of Armenian society in the face of current challenges. The decision on the deployment of the civilian mission, adopted upon the request of the Republic of Armenia, ahead of the first Armenia-EU Summit scheduled for May 5, is one of the joint initiatives stemming from the Strategic Agenda of 🇦🇲-🇪🇺 partnership.

34 years have passed since the Armenian village of #Maragha was subjected to a preplanned & brutal massacre on April 10, 1992. The atrocities in Maragha were not an isolated event but a continuation of the systematic violence previously witnessed during the pogroms in Sumgait, Kirovabad, & Baku. Evidence of this violence, recorded by hrw & amnesty, highlights the tragic consequences that follow when systemic hatred & persistent impunity remain unaddressed. Over 50 civilians were killed, including 30 women, while 5,000 residents were forcibly displaced by Azerbaijani forces. 29 women & 9 children were taken hostage during the attack while the fate of 19 individuals remains unknown to this day. Honoring the memory of the victims and the missing requires more than just tribute: it demands a genuine commitment to preventing the recurrence of such crimes. Armenia remains dedicated to this approach, emphasizing that a sustainable peace requires an environment free from the rhetoric of enmity & strong commitment to addressing humanitarian issues & advancing reconciliation.

In these days of remembrance of the victims of the 1988 #Sumgait massacres orchestrated by Azerbaijani SSR forces, we honor the memory of hundreds of Armenians who were killed. Around half a million were forcibly displaced. 🕯️Remembrance is not only about reflecting on the past. It is a reaffirmation of our shared responsibility to uphold human rights, reject hatred & hate speech in all its forms, while working steadfastly toward reconciliation & lasting peace.
