Spanish colonial homes were never just beautiful. They were built to survive heat.
Thick lime walls that stay cool without AC. Deep verandas that kill direct sun. Terracotta roofs that breathe. Timber that ages into the building.
Brazil, Colombia, Mexico built entire cities this way. Then “modern” came and replaced all of it with glass and concrete.
The irony is we’re now paying to cool the buildings that replaced the ones that cooled themselves.
