Full sized pickup trucks are actually a scam. Here's why: they sell you on the idea of capability. That your full sized truck can haul more and tow more. And while technically true, it's not meaningfully true. For example, a Ford F-150 has a cargo capacity of 2440 lbs. The Ranger can carry 1,818 lbs. For your average Joe Suburbanite, the most you're likely to do with that truck is for example haul some topsoil home to top dress your lawn. A cubic yard of top soil reliably weights between 2600 lbs and 2800 lbs. This exceeds the cargo capacity of the Ford F-150, so to be safe (and smart), you're going to get a half cube of soil which is at most 1,400 lbs. The Ranger can easily handle that. Moreover, the Ranger has a towing capacity up to 7,500 lbs, which approaches the base model Ford F-150. It would actually be smarter for most truck buyers to get a well equipped Ford Ranger, buy a two-axle dump trailer (~$6k), and pocket the $20k difference.

My AC died today. HVAC company comes out and says: "Compressor is shot. $10,500." I call a friend. Same unit. Same day install. $6,500. How does a $4,000 price difference exist in a business that's supposed to be competitive?

@PerpetualAsset @jonbrooks Those are called minisplit units and can be 15k between condenser and actually indoor unit after installation costs, which nobody ever talks about. If talking about window units however yes much more cost effective

Как мне нравится современный эко-рекет. "Смотрите! электрички не греются!" а ничего что греется аккумулятор при зарядке и разрядке и он под днищем поэтому тепло попросту не видно а его не мало (кпд там тоже далеко не идеальное). А ничего что 90% современных выбросов это то что стирается резина покрышек, асфальт и тормозные колодки причём это особо токсичная пыль которая чёрным налётом всюду в городах оседает и мы ими дышим. Нет надо дальше душить и уродовать ДВС... во славу маркетинга и продвижения нового.

Расходы в штатах. Сколько стоит жить в майами? Для контекста, мы переехали сюда в 19 году и за это время цены местами выросли в полтора два раза. Когда переехали нас было четыре человека, здесь родили еще одного (первый американец в семье) и теперь нас пятеро. Детям 12, 9 и 2. Начнем с обязательных расходов, которые есть независимо ни от чего. Все "в месяц" 2000$ - Ипотека (включает в себя налог на недвижку и страховки). И мне повезло, что я ее взял под 2.5% годовых за 230 000$ (127 квадратов) практически на берегу в ковид. Щас цены ваще другие. 900$ - HOA (это комуналка + интернет + обслуживание комплекса, включая бассейн) Помимо этого в кондо каждый год что-то происходит и собирают деньги на фиксы, недавно качалку восстанавливали после того как ее сожгли, сейчас бассейн ремонтируют, скоро гараж (на тысячи машин) обновляют. Тут доп расходы в год от 1000$ до 5000$ и раз в 10-15 лет могут попросить 20 000$ на капиталку. 250$ - Электричество. Тут даже если уехать не платить нельзя, потому что с выключенным кондеем сразу заведется какая-нибудь плесень и квартире хана. Он работает даже если мы уезжаем. 230$ - Связь. Цена в месяц на одного человека за линию 40, плюс немного устройств 1200$ - Машина в лизинг в месяц. Тут можно было дешевле, долларов на 500$, но очень хотелось поездить на bmw :) 250$ - страховка на машину. Это флоридская особенность, здесь страховки в разы дороже чем в других штатах 1300$ - мед страховка на меня с женой. Правда надо понимать что американская страховка на медицину это не 100% покрытие, еще каждый месяц доплачиваем за посещения/лекарства/процедуры сотни долларов (в зависимости от того как часто ходим). Детям с прошлого года стали выдавать medicaid (его в основном дают малообеспеченным, но во флориде иногда включают для всех детей). Иначе еще 1000$ за детей бы добавилось. С медициной надо добавить, что помимо этого есть еще постоянные доп расходы на зубы например. Например в прошлом году жене ставили капы, это 7000$ и ребенку исправляют прикус это еще 2000$. Каждый год такое прилетает. Когда вас много, всегда что-то случается. Эти деньги я плачу независимо ни от чего, даже если мы надолго уезжаем. В конце года бывает что отказываемся от мед страховки. Это риск, но в целом если все нормально, то можно сэкономить тыщу другю. Но если будет какой-то несчастный случай, то все капец. Поехали дальше, переменные расходы. 5000$ это еда. Все стоит чертовски дорого. Одна поездка в костко это 700$ раз в неделю, плюс постоянные мелкие покупки почти каждый день. Да в штатах можно питаться дешевле, но это если вы готовы есть картонную курицу. Нормальная зелень, овощи, фрукты и мясо стоят космос 1500$ - амазон. Тут все от бытовухи до памперсов и игрушек. 900$ - гимнастика для сына (не каждый день). Забирают прямо из школы (это называется after school, в штатах очень популярно). Еда не входит, кладем ему сами либо можно доплачивать 15$ за прием. Старшая тусует с друзьями, тут экономия :) 500$ - кредиты в месяц. В основном техника, обновления телефонов, планшетов и лаптопов 150$ - бензин. Я езжу мало, у нас пешеходный город 100$ - качалка в месяц для жены. Качалка в кондо тоже есть, но она такая, для очень не искушенных x - женские дела (процедурки как мы любим говорить). Тут не знаю, жена сама решает сколько тратит и когда :) 1000$ - просто улетает на всякое, где то ребенок попросил, где-то штраф (один штраф это 150-250), где-то в мол съездили, где-то чайник новый заказали или xbox в ремонт. Услуги в штатах тоже очень дорогие Опциональные 250$ - любой выезд на выходных куда-нибудь. Как правило на мою семью вход это 100$ на всех плюс прием пищи и перекусы. Слетать в мексику (как турция для рф) или покататься на круизе (порт прямо тут) выходит где-то 6000$ на неделю. Ко всему этому прибавляем ежегодные расходы на бухгалтера и налоги (как раз сейчас идет период), которые гуляют от 30% до 40%

If you compare a picture of a Russian rural area with an American one, you begin to understand mass affluence, and how it shows up even in our "poor" rural areas. Notice the massive and expensive road infrastructure, the extensive mechanically mowed areas and so forth in the American example. If you examined the American properties in more detail, you would find a wealth of recreational and utility motorized vehicles, ATVS, compact tractors, etc. In the Russian example, the money to do all that simply does not exist. You clear a path to the door with a scythe, and no one has "toys" costing tens of thousands of dollars.

@MrExciitement That's a load of BS. GM TPMS sensors are $20 for four (ebay or amazon). Replace them yourself, if you break the bead by using a jack against a trailer hitch or another fixed object. Takes 5 minutes to do per wheel.

Got truck serviced. All 4 tire sensors not working. Repair cost $665. Or just leave it and simply check tire pressure with a pressure gauge people used for decades. A nearly $700 "repair" just to make a warning light go away. Modern vehicles are such a scam.

Laptop on its last legs. Had it since 2013. Overheating. Loud fans. Very slow. I call computer guy and he has me bring it over. Takes one look. Restarts computer. Instantly fixed. Asks me when the last time I restarted was. I tell him never and I just close it when I’m done. He tells me to stop doing that and says I don’t owe him anything. Tells me to have a nice day. To him and his kind I must be genuinely subhuman

@dantypo Manual seats, windows and door locks, No fancy screens, just a bluetooth with AM/FM. 16" steel wheels. Not automatic headlight or wipers, no heated and cooled seats. 4 cylinder or V6 with a 4 speed automatic. Simple, like 1992. $16-18K would be a doable price point.

A market for a car stripped back to what cars used to be. I think there should be stripped down versions of cars by most car companies. No screens. Manual/mechanical gages. Basic seats with memories. Cars that guys can work on. Fewer parts to break. I think it’s a big market.

@Jeff18842163 @dantypo No argument, but they are NOT necessary. I love my power windows, too, until they stop working. Manual gearboxes are awesome, but the VAST majority of drivers today have no clue how to drive one.
