The scapegoating of #Christians in #Iran is the focus of our 2026 annual report. Nearly twice as many were arrested in 2025 than in 2024, and more than twice as many were imprisoned. Sentences also got harsher: Christians received a total of 280 years in prison sentences, and 11 individuals received sentences of over 10 years each. “For 47 years, the Iranian people have been subjected to a regime that not only consistently fails to uphold human rights for its citizens, but brutally quashes dissenting voices, opinions or beliefs,” the report states. “This report details the violations throughout 2025 experienced by just one section of society – the #Christian community.”

An Iranian #Christian convert has been sentenced to 9 years and 8 months in prison on charges including “propaganda against the state” and “gathering and collusion against #Iran's national security”. Ghazal, who spent two months in #EvinPrison in 2024 after being convicted of “propaganda against the state by chanting slogans”, was rearrested in January at her home in #Tehran. Her #Bible and other Christian literature were confiscated, and she was then taken away to an unknown location, with no explanation given for her rearrest. According to Article18’s sources, Ghazal was pressured during interrogations to admit that her #Bible and other Christian literature had been used for evangelical purposes, but Ghazal denied this, saying they had been for personal use only and that, as a Christian, she had the right to possess them. The report I linked above is from 2014 but most of the information is still, sadly, current. I think what the guest here is talking about are people who are born into Christianity in Iran. It is true that the Islamic Republic affords some freedoms to adherents to monotheistic religions but NOT to any converts. Converts are dealt with brutally, as are members of the Bahai faith who the Islamic Republic considers to be heretics. Interviews like this are incredibly misleading—the Islamic Republic does not tolerate freedom of religion when it believes that religious practice is an affront to Islam. Christian converts are considered apostates by the Islamic Republic and can be given the death penalty. طبق گزارش‌های منتشرشده، مأموران حکومتی در مراسم چهلم از نصب سنگ مزار #محسن_رشیدی_خانی‌آبادی، شهروند #مسیحی جلوگیری کردند. ایران‌اینترنشنال در این‌باره نوشت: «به‌گفته خویشاوندان این جاویدنام ۴۲ ساله، اگرچه سنگ قبر او برای نصب در باغ رضوان آماده بود، اما مأموران به بهانه درج بیتی شعر، مشابه آنچه بر مزار پدرش نوشته شده بود، مانع نصب آن شدند.» در این گزارش آمده است که عبارت «تا ابد در من و سرزمینم» نیز از دلایل مخالفت مأموران با نصب سنگ عنوان شده است. پیکر محسن اکنون در قبری دوطبقه در کنار مادربزرگش به خاک سپرده شده است. روی سنگ مزار اولیه این خانواده عبارت «مگر کانون مهرماه می‌شود خاموش بماند» حک شده بود، اما مأموران امنیتی با وجود مخالفت اعضای خانواده، اجازه ندادند این جمله بار دیگر بر سنگ مزار مشترک آنان نوشته شود. سازمان ماده ۱۸ پیش‌تر گزارش داده بود که محسن رشیدی، شهروند مسیحی، روز ۱۹ دی‌ماه در جریان یکی از تجمعات اعتراضی در بهارستان اصفهان به دست مأموران امنیتی جان باخت. در این تجمع، دوست همراه او، قهرمان دو دوره مسابقات کشوری پاورلیفتینگ، از ناحیه قفسه سینه هدف تیراندازی نیروهای امنیتی قرار گرفت. بر اساس روایت دوستان نزدیک که شاهد این رویداد بودند، محسن رشیدی ۴۲ ساله برای کمک به دوست مجروحش به سمت او می‌رود، اما مأموران امنیتی او را مورد ضرب‌وشتم قرار می‌دهند. او موفق می‌شود از دست نیروها فرار کند، اما پس از پراکنده‌شدن مأموران، بار دیگر برای نجات پیکر دوستش به محل بازمی‌گردد. در همین هنگام، نیروهای امنیتی از پشت سر با گلوله جنگی او را هدف قرار می‌دهند و گلوله به ران پایش اصابت می‌کند. طبق این گزارش، مأموران مستقر مقابل بیمارستان مانع ورود محسن و همراهانش به اورژانس و دسترسی او به خدمات درمانی شدند و او در نهایت بر اثر خون‌ریزی شدید جان خود را از دست داد. articleeighteen.com/fa/news/21032/ #مسیحیان #ایران #ماده۱۸

A lawyer who has defended political prisoners including Iranian #Christians has been arrested again in #Shiraz, according to reports. According to the Emtedad website, Bahar Sahraian was detained on Saturday, 16 May, while following up on her cases at the Shiraz Revolutionary Court. She was reportedly taken to the prosecutor’s office that same morning and charged with “assembly and collusion to act against national security”, “propaganda activities against the Islamic system”, and “publishing falsehoods”, before being sent to #AdelAbad Prison. Bahar has defended clients including Sam Khosravi and Maryam Falahi, whose adopted daughter, Lydia, was ordered by a court to be removed from their care because they had converted to Christianity and Lydia was considered to have been born a Muslim; and Sara Ahmadi and Homayoun Zhaveh, who were sentenced to a combined 10 years in #Tehran’s #EvinPrison, even though Homayoun, in his 60s, suffered from advanced #Parkinsons disease. In Sam and Maryam’s case, Bahar managed to obtain two fatwas from Grand Ayatollahs – the most senior #Shia Islamic authority in #Iran – declaring that, owing to the “critical nature” of the case, poor health of the child and undisputed emotional attachment with her parents, #Lydia’s adoption by Christian #converts was “permissible”. She was also one of 120 lawyers to sign an open letter to the head of the judiciary at the time, calling on him to overturn the decision. (He did not.)
