“I spent a long time just teaching kids to sit still on the carpet for one book. That’s something I didn’t need to do before.” nytimes.com/interactive/20…

@markseidenberg I would also be interested in voiceover as well as well as how these ideas should translate into practice- particularly for English Language Learners.

@kjchambers This test is nothing like the real TCAP. The pdf with passages and writing prompts on that site is closer- but still not the same.
English

If the actual TCAP test is anything like the practice test, may be time for an audit of the questions and answers. Case in point-these are 2 questions from the practice test. Not only are they identical, but I selected the same answer for both and somehow got one wrong. WTF?

@VoteGloriaJ If you are interested, make sure you download the PDF that has the passages/writing prompts. It is more similar. Only it’s about 4 times as long. The grammar quiz is nothing like TCAP- besides some of the questions not having correct answer choices to choose.

@javroar Looks like the older one on the other side actually blows them out- 🤷♀️

@AbbyTeachesDSM @ELeducation My little one’s teacher gave her a bird “workbook” and several bird books as her summer gift. She is obsessed- even after Modules 3 and 4- loves to “study” birds!
English

You guys, the birds are still going strong even AFTER we finish modules 3 and 4.😂 We did a Finish the Picture to accompany a quick write and this lil hunny drew a Green Bee Eater out of that V. 😭🦜🪺🪶💗 @ELeducation

Our goal is to provide a space that takes learning outside and becomes a gathering place for teachers, students, and the Lenoir City community. Today our 2nd graders worked ALL day building pollinator gardens and @TheMuse came to teach our students about bats. It was a great DAY!

@kate_g_m I enjoyed working with you in our ELPA cohort and thank you for all you did at TDOE. Best wishes in your next steps!

Teaching foundational skills requires teacher modeling. How do we help our teachers find the “sweet spot of modeling?” See the @ReadingShanahan quote below 👇🏽.

@pernilleripp When I taught 6th Grade my favorite poem to teach was The Road Not Taken- we read it during our novel study of Tuck Everlasting- also my favorite novel to teach. Figurative language, imagery, metaphor- It was such a wonderful pairing in many ways! Miss it sometimes!
