in kazakh, “i love you” translates as “мен сені жақсы көремін”.
but the literal translation means “i see you very well”.
because to love you is to see you, to acknowledge you, to want to know all your little habits, silly thoughts and vulnerable diary entries. your being is recognized in this infinitely expanding universe. you matter and among all this noise, i still see
you.
i see you in the quiet ways you exist:
in the half-finished cups of tea,
in the songs you never play past your own headphones,
in the messages you type and delete and type again.
to say “i love you” here is to say:
i notice.
i am paying attention.
i am choosing you in all your versions—the loud, the soft, the tired, the trying.
even when the world looks past you,
my eyes don’t.
in a language where love is seeing,
you never have to ask if you are too much
or not enough.
you are exactly as you are,
and i see you very well.
