A lot of people DM me daily asking for referrals or job opportunities.
But every time I check their profiles, portfolios, or projects… the same issues keep repeating.
Here are the most common mistakes I see:
1. Non-responsive Portfolio :-
If your own house doesn’t look good, how can a client trust you to build a beautiful one for them?
Your portfolio is your digital home. Make it responsive, clean, and impressive on mobile — because most recruiters browse on their phones.
2. Weak or Unhosted Projects :-
Many developers have projects… but they’re not properly hosted or showcased.
Recruiters don’t have time to dig through your GitHub repos and read code. They want to see working demos, clean UI, and smooth functionality in under 30 seconds.
3. Overly Fancy Resumes :-
Stop creating overly designed, complicated resumes.
Keep it clean, ATS-friendly, and mention only those things you can confidently explain in an interview. Everything else is just noise.
4. Unprofessional Social Media Presence :-
Many people add their LinkedIn, Twitter/X, GitHub, or Instagram in their resume/portfolio…
…but their profiles look nothing like a serious developer.
Your online presence is part of your personal brand. Make it consistent and professional.
These small fixes can dramatically increase your chances of getting noticed.
If you guys want, I can write a detailed article covering these issues with practical solutions for each. Let me know in the comments! 👇
