(3) Why did the British need to raise the Cachar Levy which later came to be called the Assam Rifles, and is the oldest paramilitary force in India? Because, all the hills tribes too resisted British occupation and fought against them. If you were capable of reading, I would have recommended you to read Col. L.W.
