What if hard work pays? Isaac Muimi (52), a farmer from Kitui, now earns ~KSh 40,000 per season thanks to a sand dam & shallow well project by The Water Project & ASDF. Reliable water = thriving crops, stronger livelihoods.

“Since the project was completed, we’ve seen real impact,” shares Christine Nthenya (38), the group’s secretary. “We’ve already made KSh 16,000 from vegetable sales, and we’re planning to expand even more land!”

Water scarcity once disrupted learning at Itoloni Girls’ Secondary School in Kitui County. Frequent borehole breakdowns and costly water bowser purchases meant constant rationing. Today, thanks to TWP and ASDF, a 104,000-litre masonry tank now provides reliable clean water.

From record-low rains to rising resilience In semi-arid Kitui West, water + skills are turning dry land into opportunity. Peninah Njoki’s first harvest earned KSh 120K—now reinvested to grow more.

“I never knew I could plant trees here and see 90% of them survive. I struggled a lot before, but since we got a reliable water source and training on proper tree planting, the trees are now thriving. This has given me hope and the confidence to plant even more,”

From a 4km daily walk for unsafe water to clean water just steps away. In Kaghui, Kitui County, a solar-powered pipeline has transformed lives. Women now reclaim time, improve health, and earn ~KSh 1,000 daily through water sales. Clean water = dignity, equality, and opportunity.

Not all hope is lost! 💧 In Ndakoni village, Katambauku Mukau Growers SHG no longer depends on distant, unsafe scoop holes. Thanks to TWP & ASDF, a new sand dam and shallow well now provide clean water close to home, improving health, and restoring hope.

Lazarus has planted 50+ tree seedlings on his farm thanks to support from Sand Dams Worldwide (SDW) and Africa Sand Dam Foundation. SDW distributed 200,000 tree seedlings across Makueni, Machakos & Kitui to help communities tackle hot, dry climate conditions.
